I remember the interview as well. It wasn't the ULL game because I attended that game.

I was wearing my purple and gold glasses, and when Skip told that to Rantz, I said "Wow!"

He basically said that 2014 hitting wasn't going to be as strong as 2013, that we wouldn't hit as many homers, we'd have to rely on Nola, etc.

For an old guy, Skip can still see.

Stony brook and Houston shouldn't be the teams keeping us from going. We had them Sunday night and blew it.

So only teams like Texas, Miami, Fullerton, etc should be. I'm sure that would have made a lot of difference to fans this weekend.

still glad that we are SEC tourney champions
That's a big achievement for the season. Skip was right in his interview. Tigers had limitations this season and maybe even did a little overachieving, given the lack of offensive clout and consistency.

Not saying it excuses the questionable (at best) coaching decisions re: pitchers, but Houston is fricking good. And Stony Brook had 7 or 8 players drafted. Take that for what it's worth.

that insight really blew you away? The hitting wouldn't be as good and we'd have to rely on our ace pitcher? Wild stuff.....

Then I remembered that all CPM does is win SECT championships, but that only goes so far.

he won the SEC regular season championship in 2009 and 2012. Last year we went 23-7 in the SEC which would have won the conference any other year, yet Vandy set an SEC record at 27-3. Hard to put that in Mainieri. CPM also has won a national title and been to Omaha 3 times at LSU and once at Notre Dame. It's almost as if you;re framing this as him winning the SECT 5 times in 7 trips is a bad thing.

Because most here are spoiled know it alls.

THIS. I've been following LSU baseball since the 80s and enjoyed Skip's run as much as anyone, but anyone who pays attention to baseball outside LSU would know that college baseball isn;t and never again will be like it was. There are many many more teams that field competitive team year in and year out now. For instance, only one of the teams in the CWS last year are even in the super regionals this year. I doubt all those schools are clamoring for a new coach.

If we lose to Southeastern Friday night, I could have accepted losing the regional a lot better.

bullshite. if we lost to a 4 seed at home in a regional, people would have been complaining just as much, just a lot sooner than they did

Paul has been 3 times in eight years. That might be as good as it gets these days.

pretty sure the only coach with more in that time span is Mike Fox at UNC, and he hasn't won anything in Omaha yet. USC had their run, but they've still only been to Omaha three times in that time span. Just think about all the elite programs in the Mainieri era. Only one has had more trips to Omaha than LSU.

I think the thing that has everyone so riled up is the fact we were 6 outs away with a 4 run lead and kinda shite the bed. Then had a chance at redemption and looked like we didn't even show up to play. I feel like our hitters were trying to hit for the fence during both games against UH.

i don't disagree, i'm plenty frustrated with how sunday ended, and mistakes were def made that i'm sure PM wishes he could go back and do differently. but, i think it's absurd people questioning his worth as a coach with the success he's had compared to his coaching counterparts. The guy set a school record for SEC wins and regular season wins last season, yet people want to trash him because our team went cold in Omaha. It's baseball, shite happens. And with gorilla ball being a thing of the past, the margin for error is just so much smaller than it once was.

Why did we not have the players t be great this year? Because miner goes out and recruits the best paler who get drafted and then tells everyone how greta the class is. The a month or so later, 90% of them take the pro offer!!!!!!!

Then miner gets on TV or LSU friendly NOLA.com and whines about players wanting to turn pro.

Getting really old....look at UoL and even SLU...we are not even getting the best players in Louisiana.

The fact that we did not have great hitters this year is not the fault of the bats, seams on baseball or Javi....it is because Paul Maineri is a lazy incompetent recruiter.

LSU with our history should select not recruit....looks like we are stuck with CPM for a while....he sure did look uncharacteristically nervous in the dugout this year. Hope the heat is getting to him.
