Well considering i have a kid here in Iraq with me that does 502 (no bench shirt/no assist) that I saw with my own eyes (he is 192lbs) I can believe that a college athlete (50 lbs heavier) can do 100 lbs more

How much is Drake Nevis' bench? I thought he was one of the highest as a true freshman.

The record is Ryan Kennelly at 1050 lbs. He weighs 347 lbs. He broke his previous record of 1036 just recently. The clip of him actually doing it is on youtube. Tag bench press or ryan kennelly.

Nevis just edged my mark at LSU.

pianoman, no one benched 600+.......guess what? The lift record before that was 565 (Steltz) and before that was 545 (Bo Davis - Saban's DL coach). I saw Bo's lift in person and it was total bullshite. If he spotter's mits are on the bar, then it is NO LIFT. I later watched Bo struggle with 405 for 8 reps (horrible form)......oh, and the NCAA had a "chat" with Bo for a year.

yea, Mendallson has BEEN broken......Gary Frank of Baton Rouge has done 1000+ I believe. That dude is a FREAK! 6'4" 400lbs.....

Big Herm benched 450 according to the Advocate in a pre-season story.

I stand corrected. After searching the internet to prove that I was right, I found....

quote:

14. PK Colt David connected on his third made field goal of the season and 41st of the year on a 46-yard field goal with 2:02 left in the first quarter.
a. David broke the school record of career points by a kicker with his nine points tonight. David’s career total of 298 shattered the old mark of 292 set by David Browndyke (1986-89).

That was a shirted bench press. These pros get 350-400LBS out of a shirt.

That is some awful heavy weight and would win him just about any bench meet he entered. That is a more believeable number than the 600 number but it is pushing the limits of believability. I am not one to call people liars and if you say you saw it I will believe you. You did say that you did not see the 600lb press. Remember for a legitimate BP you cannopt bounce the weight and the bar must stop on your chest for a full second before pressing up.

There is a big difference in 502 and 600. Remember that the guys who set these records are professional athletes and most of the BP'ers specialize in that particular lift.

I guess he is damn near the world record holder than PianoMan. I believe he was in the 242LB category. That is an amazing accomplishment since he was not a professional powerlifter and took half the drugs and had half the time to lift that these powerlifting pros have. In other words it is B.S.

Weight Class Name X-Bwt Bench Press (lbs) Date
114 Andrzej Stanaszek 3.51 391 11/16/94
123 Rick Couch 3.06 377 4/10/93
132 Joe Bradley 3.00 397 12/6/80

To me that's like pointing out that a 40 time is not 100% accurate due to the reaction time of the person holding the clock.

As long as the standards among football players are the same (or close to it) who cares if that differs from professional power lifters?

Larry Allen's BP was a joke. The spotters were helping about 150lbs worth. Not to mention they show this half way through and I don't think he even touched the weight to his chest.

Honestly, the far more impressive footbal numbers are cleans and squats.

I agree. I also am not a big fan of shirted bench presses. Check this one out. The body isn't meant to lift that much weight.
