Simmons is not at that level- lets have this conversation next season..

Simmons is putting up stats that havent been achieved in the history of the conference, let alone lsu.

Chris jackson wasnt leading the sec in rebounds.
Pete wasnt leading the sec in rebounds.
Shaq wasnt 4th in the conf in assists and 2nd in the conf in steals.

There has never been a player that has done what he has done. He leads the sec in rebounds, 4th in assists,2nd in steals, and 3rd in ppg. Do you know how rare that is? Its so rare that its never happened since 1932.

No way Ben is in the same class as Pete, because when it comes to college basketball players, Pete was in a class of one. In a division of one. Greatest college basketball player ever. No one comes close.

Agreed.

Actually the op couldve included any cbb player ever and that player would take aback seat to Pete.

Listen to what the Admiral David Robinson has to say about Pete starting at 9:18. LINK

"He's a guy who changed the game. He was unbelievable. "

It's hilarious how this board loves Pete and hates Ben. They are the same thing. Unreal college players with once in a lifetime SEC stats who couldn't win anything because their teams were poor

Besides shooting ability, the biggest difference between the two is that Pete would have played four years if he could have.

Pete's college stats

soph 43.6 ppg 7.5 rpg 4.0 apg
jr. 44.2 " 6.9 " 4.9 "
sr. 44.5 " 5.3 " 6.2 "

Career 44.2 ppg 6.5 rpg 5.1 apg

He could rebound, too, especially when he had to because of his teammates' limitations. He had several triple doubles in his LSU career.

Seriously? No one is in the same class as Pistol Pete. No one has ever come close to doing what he did. Ben is good, even great, but he's not Maravich. No disrespect intended to Ben, though. He's a good kid and a great player.

He shouldn't even be in the same conversation with Pete Maravich.
Or Shaq
Or Chris Jackson
Or Ricky Blanton
Or Bob Petit
Or and of the great players that preceded him

Kinda like Chris Jackson????? He is the closest we will ever get to a player like Pete.

I never got to see Pete play, but I seen Chris Jackson, and I would take him over both.

Ben Simmons when it is all said and done will have a much longer career in the NBA as well as a better scoring average in the NBA. For college he could have been if he stays 3 years, not in avg points but you imagine his results now (20 PPG, 15 RPG, and 5-6 APG) as a Freshman!!! Imagine his 3rd year what it could be like (28 PPG, 17 RPG, 6-7 APG)- that guys would be the best all around talent. But we will never see that until College BB does it like FB...
