The point was -- Duncan (a former swimmer, mind you, that worked his arse off to get better and achieve greatness) was able to clean up 12 a game in the mid-90s ACC, against the best teams college basketball had to offer...that is ELITE. Simmons, the number one overall player and "best recruit since Lebron", is getting 11 a game in the SEC against Ole Miss, Mizzou, and some other scrubs... he SHOULD get that many, the teams we play kind of suck. In my opinion he isn't elite at it and it will show at the next level.

I'm out, yall can now go tweet Ben and let him know how great he is...as if he didn't already know.

Simmons is a poor mans Chris bosh at the next level at best.

They are both tall and left handed. Other than that, their games aren't that similar.

Sounds like you create a narrative to support what you want to believe while minimizing or ignoring objective data.

People are bitching about TQ it might be BS that has the team chemistry messed up. I noticed at the end of the game BS started trying to score with the game out of hand. He passed up shots in the lane on several occasions early on. Like someone else said trying to get his.

Tyrus Thomas, Glenn Davis, Stromile Swift....they would have kicked Simmon's arse...he's so soft. Give me any of those players over Simmons.

You shouldn't and should disavow that you ever used that argument.

Exactly.

He's not nearly as physical as past players that have not even gotten drafted.

I lurked for years, now I remember why I never got involved. So many Tiger fans hate our Tigers.

Ben is Good, Really good. When he has 4 NBA caliber players around him those passes to wide open players won't go to waste.

20, 10 and 5 is no joke for a FRESHMAN. I can imagine he is a little distracted looking at $100 million+ shoe deal and a Lottery contract.

And yet none of those guys (great players, all of them) came within two rebounds per game of him. But let's keep pumping that narrative and hating on a 19 year old kid that has done a lot for LSU.

Stats are for losers. Nobody is going to remember Simmons rebounding stats, everyone will remember only winning enough games for the NIT.

Thomas, Davis, Swift were all winners.

I'll give Simmons a break on winning because he's not getting any coaching.

Name "a lot".

Ben gets by on supreme athleticism. He has A LOT of work to do to make himself a player that will carry an NBA team. It's not his fault, he's just part of a basketball generation that is built on Internet hype.

All he's done is show the country how horrible of a coach Johnny Jones is. If you can't make the NCAA Tournament with 2 McDonald's All-Americans and good role players, well....

I've never been too impressed with Simmons, but again...it's hard to tell since he doesn't command the ball or play defense, can't shoot from the outside and we have no half-court set offense. More organized basketball is being played on the streets of Compton right now.

Calipari did that with like 6 AAs.

Calipari gets a pass because he's won a National Championship.

He has created a lot revenue and attention for the program while producing one of the best freshman seasons ever by any individual metric available. If you can't see this then I can't help you. This team is insanely frustrating and Ben isn't absolutely perfect (he is 19 after all), but he by far the best player on this team that likely wouldn't be .500 without him.
