Seems like Auburn noticed this on film and made adjustments in defending him
Not specifically him. That's a technique used by lots of teams. Saban used to teach that to our DB's here, assume he still does at Bama also. When the WR put his hands up, you thrust your hand into his and break it up.

Beckham is an extremely talented WR. However one area he is lacking is his ball skills when going up for the catch. Sometimes he seems to misjudge the flight of the ball which puts him a little out of position to make the catch.

On the other hand Landry is a beast when going get the ball. I'm not sure there is a better WR with ball skills in the Country.

It because he hasn't ran under a pass yet. He usually has to slow down so high pointing the ball is his best and easiest option. I'm sure if he is running for his life trying to get to a ball he will catch it over the shoulder. It's crazy because i was thinking about this on my way to work this morning.

It could be as simple as his perception of where the ball will fall in that split second.. If he thinks its going to be short he will be fighting for the ball (defending against int & trying to catch). In that case you use hands forward.

It's a damn shame he isn't 1 or 2 inches taller. He seems to have the thoroughbred possession receiver qualities as well as the slot shiftiness

If the ball is not going out in front of you ,you must break stride turn and go up for it. You judge like a fly ball in baseball ,catch it with glove up ,sideways or down.

2" taller and he'd be a sure 1st round pick, not that he won't be.

Hi, F@G!

I've said that several times. He's such a playmaker - it is frustrating to see how he tries to play the long ball in the air most of the time.

i contended after TCU and still contend that OBJ has issues with playing the ball in the air. He just cannot do it well. That first pass of the game is a perfect example. He routinely turns around to the ball and tries to catch it facing the defender. All that does it make it much easier for the defender to break up the pass. It also makes it much harder for OBJ to fall and protect the ball in the process. OBJ needs to use his body (back) to defend the ball in flight from the DB.

yep. TheEye gets it.

Some of you need to go back to WR school. If you can catch the ball while placing your body between it and the defender, you do it. It forces the defender to have to make the play through you (prone to penalty) or over you (if he is 7' tall). This is proper technique.

Now, obviously if the ball is underthrown you are taught to come back to it and catch it at its highest point.
