Baton Rouge - LSU Bucket List Trip

Hi LSU Tiger Fans,
I’m from Oregon and visiting my 26th college football stadium on October 12 for LSU vs Florida game. Heading to New Orleans October 10 then Baton Rouge on the 11th.
A few questions...
1. What is a must do/see in Baton Rouge for the Game Day experience? Also, any New Orleans recommendations besides the FQ?
2. On 10/11 (Friday)...looking for awesome Baton Rouge bar to watch Oregon vs Colorado game.
3. Do you think Game Day will be in Baton Rouge?
4. Side note, any tennis players on this blog? I’m between a 4.0 and 4.5 level player looking for someone in NO and/or BR to hit with during the weekend...
Looking forward to next week. Geaux Tigers!

Sounds good! I went to the Oregon vs LSU game in Dallas several years ago and had a blast with the fans. Super fun experience...

Baton Rouge is an hour away from New Orleans. Mike The Tigers cage is something you should do on Gameday I love it and it’s unique. Walk around campus and take in the tailgating scene. Talk to folks and tell them what you’re doing, and they’d be more than happy to offer you food and a drink. Commanders palace is an upscale restaurant in New Orleans. It’s really good. I don’t live in Louisiana so I’m not sure if I’m the best on recommending restaurants. Gameday will likely not be in Baton Rouge. This is due to the Oklahoma Texas game the same day. Also, Florida is hosting Gameday this week so it’d be unlikely that they’d want Florida 2 weeks in a row. Hope you can find someone who plays tennis!

Walk around campus with your Oregon gear. You might get some playful heckling, but most good tailgates will invite you in for a beer and offer you food. Look for the LSU gameday schedule to come out a day or so before the game. Make sure to watch the band and team come down victory hill. It's homecoming too so you can watch the parade as well.

Depends, what are you looking for?

Probably just check out the chimes.

If Florida beats Auburn, you can almost guarantee it.

You hit the jackpot for the game, and game time seeing that it will be a night game.

If you don't visit Splash, you never visited Baton Rouge.

Great tips...I will definitely check out Mike the Tigers cage. The tailgating scene in BR seems incredible. I was wondering about Game Day heading to Texas-OU. Maybe if Florida beats Auburn next week and both LSU and Florida are unbeaten GD will be in BR. It would be a great bonus. Plus, I have a family friend from Yachats, Oregon who is going to every ESPN Game Day this year in their RV...

Get out there early. Be friendly with random tailgaters and let them know who you are and why you’re there. They’ll feed you and liquor you up. Don’t miss the band/team coming down the hill before the game. Go see Mike.

The Bulldog is a great bar.

You can almost guarantee they won't be, no matter what happens in the AU/UF game.
They will be at OU/Texas.

You going to the game alone, or with others?

So they've done that game once since 2011 and they're going to do it back to back years?
If Florida wins this weekend, it could be a top 5 or 6 matchup of undefeated teams for a game on their own network. OU/Texas is on fox.

Go Buffs ! Beat the ducks !
Get to campus before noon. Tailgate. Wear an Oregon shirt, this will identify you as a visitor and ensure free food and drink. Best place to tailgate is around the Indian mounds. When the team arrives they walk down the hill and then the band arrives and plays . It’s pretty epic. All of this is a MUST. South Louisiana is a hospitality culture- it is important to us that you have a good time.
Then , and this is critical- get into the stadium EARLY. Like by around 6:00. The pregame videos and the band are incredible and get to the heart of what a Tiger game is about. It’s all beautifully choreographed to build to a fever pitch at kickoff.
Also, since you are from the Left Coast, if someone says “ We Comin’” this is not a threat of sexual assault and you do not need to notify a diversity officer or lodge a Hate Crimes or Incorrect Speech complaint. It just means we are back on the rise as a program . Just sayin’.

Just come by my tailgate. It’s on Lot 350.
As for NOLA, I’d avoid the Quarter. Look Uptown. Lots of good bars there.
