Has anyone heard or read about a back up plan for the roster in case we can’t sign any of the overseas guys ? Or are they already signed ? Only seen 4 players sign and seems like all the talent in the portal is gone.

Only two should be questionable to join the roster, Madar and Luis
The other international players should be fine

Hunt Palmer has a recap from today

LSU not the first to do the international players thing. It has been done for several years now and on several dozen other teams. So, no issue on those guys, just the RJ Luis may be the one that won't happen.

This is the statement that needs to be emphasized

quote:

All is quiet on the LSU basketball front, and that generally comes with confidence.

This roster construction is certainly different than anything we've seen before at LSU. But that is a byproduct of the fact we are living in a world where the eligibility rules in college sports are anything but concrete. Wade has always been a guy that has been very deliberate in his roster building. To think he is just taking a bunch of wild chances with NO backup plan would be totally out of character. Thus, the more likely outcome is silence means LSU is proceeding as planned.

If come August, or even October when practice official starts, the team only has 5-7 guys on the roster, few of which are the international players, then I will be the first to say I was wrong in having confidence in Wade's plan. But util that happens he gets the benefit of the doubt that he knows exactly what he is doing.

As far as I know he’s going to LSU if he’s eligible.

They’ll fill out the roster with members of the Dream Team that helps the WBB team practice.

To add to that, none of the internationals have received waivers to play. It is reported that Madar has already given up on trying to get eligible. It is likely that Dessert, Santos, and even Niang will face uphill battles given the NCAA's new international guidance. Also, there is euro chatter that Niang may stay overseas with a new contract.

I certainly trust Wade's plan, but a couple of things to remember. Most coaches were well on the way to developing transfer portal classes way before Wade was even offered the LSU job. He was behind the curve on most of the top guys. Then, the international guidance was changed midstream on him.

Also, I know if you don't 100% believe, "Signed, exactely who he wanted, Wade did" then you are some kind of hater But there is enough out there to say that Wade expected to retain some guys on the current LSU roster and expected some to travel from NC State with him. That didn't happen. Even if that's only 3 guys, it makes a big difference when trying to build the roster.
