He seems to make one to many moves or fakes in the post too. He always makes one extra pump fake and pivot that isn’t needed

quote:Feel better? See if you can find the one segment above that is probably a direct quote from your junior high coach.
--make up for the bad defense--simply not going to be a good defender---He's not fast enough--He's just not good on defense--his offense has to be better--He's not being aggressive enough--he's not getting better positioning--he's kind of worthless on the court altogether--He needs to punish defenses, and he's not coming close to doing that--he's not getting better defensively--not a good defender-- His physical ability limits him--He can't move laterally--and he can't jump.

He was also not considered a defensive prospect at all. This kid is trying to go from a heavily offensive game to shot blocker/defensive stopper in less than the span of a season. It’s really just a matter of stopping the dumb fouls like being too handsy 18-22 feet from the basket because when he’s on the floor he’s more productive than a lot of people realize.

To get away from SEC refs to start.

We thought he was one and done. He may be a three year player.

25 lbs in arse & upper body and alot of court time (practice time). He hasn't been playing long - needs to be a gym rat to catch up.

Experience and confidence.
And a little more meat on his bones. He's clearly got a good head on his shoulders, has outstanding length and athleticism and has shown he has SOME moves in the post. He will be a damn good post player before he leaves LSU imho

quote:Hell, 2 games ago he got his second foul at the 17:28 mark of the first half. That's before the first TV TO at 16:00 or so.
I know last night refs were trigger happy but this is like 5 games in a row he’s either fouled out or got to early foul trouble.
That said, they were ticky tack and he's getting a lot of those. Hands straight up and not jumping but getting some of the body whether it's him or the other guy initiating the contact. He's 7'tall. He's gonna get those fouls near every time.
Correct me here if I'm wrong but I don't seem to see him getting fouls on switches when he gets away from the basket.
Look - he's a freshman who hasn't done much to establish himself so he's mostly thinking not playing.
We've just got to let the coaches do their thing. I believe when the light comes on, he'll be everything we hoped for. (just hope it pops in the next 6 weeks though!)

That’s irrelevant though, guys like Skal Labissiere have been 1 and dones even though his numbers at Kentucky were worse than Reid’s and had next to no impact for the Cats so Reid could still leave if he wants to based on his potential. I don’t think he will, he seems like a pretty mature kid but it’s besides the point either way.

Basically he just needs to be more assertive on the offensive end. Which will come with experience, Wade can help to push that with a few plays or in practice.

Excellent post, My Man.
When he gets switched outside - which doesn't happen often due to the switching scheme that keeps him down low mostly - they either go around him or shoot the 3 ball.
What am I missing, dude?
quote:For the life of me, I can't seem to remember him getting a lot of fouls outside the paint.
He could stop switching everything, 1-5, on defense.

Having O’Neal playing might actually help Reid. Not as much pressure knowing we’ve got another big and he may pickup some things on the defensive end from someone who’s been at this level for a couple years.

What I believe and summarizing some others; he’s out of position on many of his fouls so improved footwork and experience will help here, ie another year. On O, he has a great jump hook and can go left or right. I see his O confidence building with time/experience too.

Thats exactly what I think. It should be able to allow him to play more freely and less minutes since we have more capable bodies to throw out there.

Dale B. Used to bring Shaq to practices to help with new centers that always seem to get them going in the right direction.

I agree, he’s been designated to be the guy who stops players like Castleton and Kessler who are vets and that’s pressure being a guy who wasn’t thought of as a defensive prospect. Now that he knows it isn’t all on him it could loosen him up and allow him to just go play.

To move with purpose and be deliberate about it. He looked better before SEC play but has regressed and looks very timid and unsure.
