re: Based on current expectation levels, would winning 9 games this year be...

I love these threads. Pure trash entertainment. If this was an accurate reflection of society (which it is not) and we applied it toward more earth shattering subject matter, someone would think the world would be better served if about 20 to 30 percent of the gene pool just disappeared all of a sudden.
This year is unique. Normally 9-3 would be at worst a minor disappointment. But all things considered and with what is at stake, who is returning and the events from last year 10-2 minimum as far as acceptability. One of those 10 being a win over Bama makes it easier to handle. This team has the capability of going 11-1 with some luck and minimal injuries.
Les is most probably gone at 9-3. But he was suppose to be gone last November. It's more about how two or three losses happen. Injuries and any officiating shenanigans when playing Bama or home cooking we run across at Jordan Hare, The Swamp, at Arky etc. may be factored in. If we get a repeat of this past November, I don't think CLM would keep his job. Then again money is involved and CLM has friends in special places. Does not matter whether it is out of politics or convenience or actual respect.
There are some important individuals who will grant him a long leash within the realm of reason in their humble opinions. Something the type A a hole rantards and Nega trash hate. But those powerful individuals have no respect (nor should they) for our special ed section and don't care for their money or support. That is unless you are top 100 TAF. And even then, some opinions are considered more important than others and there is mentality that certain money can be replaced by others:).

There is chance for a sec program to go undefeated and not make the playoffs.
There is zero chance this will ever happen again

Youre wrong. The sec does not have an auto bid to the playoffs. There is nothing stopping the committee from leaving the sec out.
I agree that the chance is small but its still a chance.
Yall are acting like the sec hasnt been left out of the title game/ bcscg with the same amount of losses as the teams that were voted in.
If youre using voting that determined by subjective reasons then the coaches and players dont have control over making the playoffs.
There are 4 playoff spots.
There are 5 power 5 conferences.
A p5 conference WILL BE LEFT OUT of the playoffs EVERY SINGLE YEAR.
The SEC is not immune to the possibility of being that p5 conf thats left out.
The sec being left out is a smaller possibility but its a possibility none the less. That small possibility removes 100% control of making the playoffs.
Thats the difference between the seccg and the playoffs. If an sec team goes undefeated they will be in the seccg. There is no voting for the seccg

IMO it would be justified. Assuming their are no major injuries then there is no excuse for losing 3 games this year.

A-. We need to win the close ones and we should have the experience to do so. And besides the older I get the more calm I become about losses.

yes, we all understand your argument. You're technically correct that the SEC champ doesn't have complete control over the playoff because the committee votes. We get it.
But what everyone here is saying is, realistically, the SEC champ is a virtual lock to make the playoff, except in an extreme circumstance - like a 6-2 SEC record plus one or two OOC losses makes for a 3-4 loss SEC champ.

Not losing 3 anyway so don't worry about it.

Apparently no, some dont get it.

The point was the coaches and players dont control the destiny in making the playoffs so thats why I wouldn't put that as a prerequisite for an acceptable successful season. An undefeated sec champ isnt guaranteed a spot in the playoff.
Its unlikely that would happen but not guaranteed. The only title the coaches and players have 100% control over is the sec title. Thusly if lsu wins the sec title i consider it a successful season.

B) MAJOR Disappointment
anything less than 10 wins (11 counting Bowl) would be underachieving for the talent and experience that this team has.

10-2 would be a letdown but it's very realistic with the schedule

9 wins = fire Les. For real this time.

It would certainly be Catastrophic.
I would compare it to having a once in a generation basketball talent and can't make the NCAAs

9 ain't gonna cut it this year. Loaded with experience and talent. LF7 gonna eat! This year 11-1 and playoffs.

B sounds right. Expectations are up there
Posted on 7/28/16 at 9:22 pm to teeMike
Somewhere between B and C. It would be catastrophic I guess but only in the sense that I would be catastrophically butt hurt about it. The program will be fine.

You do realize the schedule is never getting any easier don't you?
That excuse is old.
LSU gets Alabama and ole miss at home.
