Love it! Do y'all remember that unbelievable game 3 we played against Long Beach; their ace pitcher was about to win it all for the final game, and the ref called his strike a ball and he got mad, lost his composure and either Rios, or Walker or both took full advantage, got the clutch hits and we won the game with 2 outs in the final inning? That big LSU player Antonini (sp?) was bawling like a baby and Skip was visibly nervous as hell. I remember (maybe incorrectly) them wearing these uniforms ). Would love to have been in Omaha for that one.

Well, you got part of that right.

It was a true semi-final game. Winner advance to the finals, loser goes home. LSU and LBS were tied heading to the 9th. LBS scored 2 in the top of the 9th, aided by an Armando Rios error. In the bottom of the 9th, Armando Rios hit a huge double to tie the game. With Rios at 3rd base and 1 out, Russ Johnson was intentionally walked to bring up Todd Walker. LBS wanted the lefty-lefty matchup. Walker drilled a single into right field and Rios made his helmet toss at home plate which was the inspiration for Ryan Theriot's helmet toss 7 years later.

The LBSU pitcher was...Gonzales, or Alvarez or something? Nickname was the Blade.

Or have I just lost my mind?

You are correct. He was definitely hispanic.

That was just a classic LSU, Skip Bertman era magical game.

eh, i disagree. i liked the deeper shade of purple in the 93 version and think the thicker letters look better. just my opinion. they both look sharp, and it's my favorite lsu baseball uniform of all time, along with our road greys and the whites we brought out this year to mirror them
