The lineup will have these 4 as the main guys...

Mikie Mahtook, .335, 14 HR
Tyler Hanover, .332, 2 HR
Austin Nola, .320, 5 HR
Trey Watkins, .268, 2 HR

... plus these guys who will likely come off the bench (with maybe Edward as a starter)...

Mason Katz, .318, 0 HR
Alex Edward, .314, 2 HR
Grant Dozar, .277, 1 HR
Beau Didier, .222, 0 HR

... plus these new guys who will hopefully add some pop...

#23, JaCoby Jones, INF
#26, Tyler Ross, C
#17, Jimmy Dykstra, RHP/OF
#4, Raph Rhymes, INF
#41, Kirk Cunningham, RHP/INF
#14, Mike Lowery, INF

Looks dicey.

With 6 new pitchers who were recently drafted however (Gausman, Eades, Jones, Dykstra, Garrett, & Hopkins), I'm not all that concerned with the pitching staff, provided that Alsup, Ott, Bradshaw, Bourgeois, & Rittiner, do a little better this year.

Not retarded at all, as I wondered the same thing for quite some time. Sadly, the answer is no.

EDIT: Nor is Matty Ott related to Mel Ott. Stanley Joseph Ott, the former bishop of Baton Rouge from 1983 to 1992, however, was related to Mel Ott. They were second cousins.

Back in the day when I liked the mets(bandwagon in 86) he was my favorite met. After that I became a Braves fan and havent given them up yet but they are never on tv any more so I dont get to see them and I just cant seem to get on the Astros bandwagon. I still remmeber most of the Brave sline up from when Murphy was there as I am sure most guys my age probably do.

I pulled for the Red Sox and Astros back then, and so he was a natural enemy at first. But then over time, I realized he represented everything I loved about a baseball player. By the time he was playing for the Phillies and flirting with .400, he was my favorite Big Leaguer.

I think we'll be fine at the plate too. Baseball is one of those sports that changes so much every year. Last year's bench warmer is this year's All-Star.

Ya'll should go to a practice sometime(today at noon, scrimmage at 1pm). There was around a 100 people there yesterday. Given that they were using the new bats, our players hit the ball pretty well. It looks like Rhyme and Snikeris will contribute this season. Snikeris seemed to have a sweet swing.

Man, I wish I could get as excited as some of you about LSU baseball and sub the passion that I have for hoops for baseball.

My life would be much happier I'm sure. Good luck to Tiger baseball. I'll get firmly on the bandwagon come post-season.

I do not think it will be a rough year. I think we improve from last year, we will get a regional, but we will see after that. I don't think we will have a seasoned team that can make it all the way to Omaha. However, remember the O3 team had nearly all replacement and young players. They made it! They went 0-2, but they made it!

I went to the scrimmage yesterday (since I expect it to be rained out today). As expected, the new bats are incredibly flat. Solid hit balls just seem to die mid-flight. And there will be a lot of bloop-singles on hits that previously would have made it to an outfielder.

In spite of bats, Mahtook hammered a pitch over left field bleachers and Snikeris put one over the fence down the left field line. Guasman and Eades are tall and thin, but pitched pretty good. Eades get beet-red on the mound. Spencer Ware looks like Zeus, but is rusty in the field and at the plate.

After going to the scrimmage yesterday I liked our offense and questioned how "dead" the bats were. Several balls were hit hard deep into the gaps and over outfielders heads, with two leaving the yard easily. We have the talent at the plate as they hit the ball well. But what does that say about pitching, or is it because they face these guys all the time in practice, hard to tell.

Defensively the guys looked sharp and can make it look easy at times. This season reminds me of 2008 with a lot of new guys but heavily talented. I can see them getting better as the season goes and making a nice run. I know our schedule is questioned a lot by playing at home mostly for the first month, but this season I am all for it letting our young pitchers get comfortable before SEC play.

With the new bats the whole game of college baseball is fixing to change you will see a lot more teams playing like Texas and cal st Fullerton which I think will be fun to watch but many fans won't understand that offensive numbers are going to change so expect many ranters to start crying for the hitting coaches head in the near future
