quote:We have this back and forth every year. I don’t use the MLB standard, and somehow every year he loses it. I always ask ell to give his contructive input/opinions directly in the thread but it’s hard to get anything out of him.
Ell explained his position and the actual debate seemed to stop once it was shown that Adam is nowhere close to the standard

Seriously, thank you for contributing your opinion, this is how this used to be

I went back and read. It was less than 2 pages of discussing Jones’s power and how the ratings apply to others. It didn’t seem overblown at all. And no one seemed to actually disagree with the content just the poster.

I will forever remember Josh Pearson for his "Superman" catch in left field in game #1 of the CWS finals against Florida.
The score was tied 3-3 in the bottom of the 10th inning with Florida batting and Florida had runners on 1st and 2nd with one out.
The Florida batter hit a line drive to left which was measured at 112+ MPH off the bat and Pearson saved the game by leaping to catch the ball.
If Pearson doesn't make that catch the runner on second base scores and Florida would take game one of the finals.

As soon as that ball left the bat, I was ready to head for the exits

Same here. I was sitting with some Omaha friends and the wife was legitimately worried about my well being during that game. I am an old man and that game was the most intense sporting event I have witnessed live.

I agree with most of this but I have few different takes.
Travinski is going to be our second best bat on the team but defensively, he doesn't have the best hands. He still drops a few.
I think Jones is serviceable at 1B but I'm curious how good he will be at digging ones out of the dirt and how flexible he is. The strikeouts need to come down. I'm not going to be shocked if he can't hold onto the position.
Pearson looks very athletic at 2B and has a low center of gravity that helps him there. I did notice some issues with turning double plays. The more reps he gets the better he will get, but I think that is a little behind.
I expect Nippolt to have a higher BA but not start.
Milam seems to be adjusting to the speed of the game at this level. I think is arm is adequate but I personally wouldn't call it strong. I also don't think he needs to put on more weight. He looks in pretty good shape to me. I think he actually has a fairly thick build to him. Jay was obviously very high on him. I'm not going to be shocked if Milam challenges Pearson at 2B. I don't think that competition is over.

I actually met Ell. He is a good guy. He is just a tad argumentative on TD. Personally I don't think a players scale grade is worth arguing over.

Lets be real here
Preseason-late season pearson
Power------45
Hitting------45
Speed------55
Fielding----50
Arm---------50
Postseason Pearson
Power------75
Hitting------75
Speed------65
Fielding----90
Arm---------60
The man is like one of those video games where you get a powerup in special situations. He's got the clutch gene. He also absolutely saved G1 vs UF.

Do you think Jay would try to get Pearson in the lineup somehow if Milam took over at 2nd? Josh has had his slumps for sure, but we don't win it all last year without him.

If Pearson’s not at 2B because of his glove you have to slide him to the OF.
Posted on 2/3/24 at 2:23 pm to Adam4848
That's my thinking as well, Adam.

Josh is the upperclassmen but Milam has a lot more experience at 2B and it shows. They are both improving. Josh has been striking out a lot but he's proven he can hit against SEC pitchers and come through in a clutch. Milam makes a lot of good contact but it often goes into a glove and he is unproven. Josh took 2B in the fall and rightfully so. If Milam is as good as Jay thinks he is, and Jay tends to be correct, it's going to a battle there.

With Jay it's offense first and defense second. Jones has immense offensive potential and Jay is not going to give up on him easily. It's going to take a lot to move Jones to the bench but if Larson, Brown or Frey are more productive offensively Jay will have to make that call at some point.
With Pearson you have the option of moving to the outfield and it would be even harder to move him to the bench. Pearson is more proven and you want Pearson playing in the post season. It could easily be determined by who is going to hit elite pitching the best between Jones, Pearson, Frey, Milam, Brown and Larson.
