Pearson has a huge upside hitting. Problem is he’s the biggest liability in the outfield by far. I see him getting to DH/PH some and maybe a few midweek starts

Obviously Jay likes him. Think he was hitting in the cleanup spot in one of those purple and gold scrimmages i went to

Not really concerned with power from Thompson. He's one of those we just need to get on base

I’m not concerned about it, but Thompson has real power. If that guy hits 290 he will have 15 HRs.

Leah tweeted the other day

"Johnson said it’s hard to imagine moving Tre’ Morgan away from first base as he gets deeper into practices" #LSU

Was listening to Tre on mahtook’s show, you can tell he wants to play 1B and not CF

The only thing I would add to your comment is Jobert, Bianco and Leto, who has speed, could also compete in the outfield if Morgan stays at 1B.

That’s my bad—I should have put a couple of “etc”s after the group of players I mentioned. I didn’t intend for it to be a full list of OF or 1B options. I simply meant if they play Morgan in the OF, it’s because they want to get a bat in the lineup at 1B. If he stays at 1B, it’s because they want to get another OF bat in the lineup. Whoever those guys are.

I thought Tre would stay at 1st because the OF is more crowded and there are more bats out there that can do damage. Sounds like Lester is reading the tea leaves that defense may be a bigger factor than some thought. Which was zero for a lot on here. And I agree that for almost all teams in the past, your 1B’s defense only makes a difference if he sucks and costs you. But we’ve never seen such a dynamic athlete there before, so it’s hard to really quantify his worth. Seems like it may be moot at this point, though.

I agree, there are just too many options for the team in the OF. The only way it would make sense to me is if Beloso or maybe Travinski force their way into the lineup.

We are going to rake.

I have a hard time believing Berry will hold down 3B defensively though.

It’s interesting that you word it like this. Not that he’s worst defensive OF of the ones competing, but an actual “liability.” I am not arguing that at all, but what exactly do you mean? He seems plenty fast enough. Does he get bad jumps on balls? Take bad angles? Or is it his arm that’s a liability in right or center, where it can’t afford to be?

I know LF was where he said he’s most comfortable, but Dugas seems to have that on lock. Not that there was a chance in hell he (Dugas) wouldn’t start, I just don’t remember reading of him being tried in RF any in the fall. Seems like it’s just whether Crews stays in right to get that 3rd OF guy in center or he moves to center and the 3rd OF plays right.

Which would be great for a FR in this lineup who’s not a plus defender. But I joked in a thread earlier that we’re gonna have 4-5 guys on the bench every game that can come in to PH and run into one if we need a 3-run bomb to tie it up late or take the lead. But wtf are they gonna pinch hit for? Everybody in the lineup can already do that anyway.

Money is looking impressive today. Fastball up to 93 on this cold day and breaking ball extremely crisp. Looks like a totally different pitcher.

I thought Pearson would win the 3rd outfield spot and be a day one starter. I don’t see that happening now. He really struggles in the outfield defensively. Fly balls, angles, you name it. I still think he has a shot to get plenty of time at DH. And his outfield play will improve over time. I’m still high on him, don’t get me wrong.
Another mistake by him today in the outfield

I don't understand wanting to play 1B over the outfield. I hated playing 1B. But if he wants to be at 1B keep him there we got plenty of outfielders. He clearly enjoys 1B and he's definitely our best. Just might have to play OF occasionally if Berry is struggling defensively and they want to put him at 1B to let someone else DH.

He has been trained to play 1B since he was a child. That’s just his spot & I think he enjoys the notoriety he receives from being so good at it. He is bringing flash to a spot that usually does not have much of it

Yes, superior defense with a flash. As we've said, Morgan saved countless IF throwing errors last season with his glove work.

I really hope Johnson leaves Morgan at 1B. If Berry's D is subpar at 3B, move him to DH, don't try and hide his glove at 1B. Mainieri used to do this shite often with bad results. We lost several games because of it. I remember a game was lost because of a Deichmann misplay that would have ended the game with an LSU win. Coach threw Deichmann under the bus after the game even though it was Coach's fault that he was at 1B. Greg's father wanted to do physical harm to Coach.

Pretty sure we also did that with Scivique once or twice

And i agree, i want him at first base. I dont understand why lsu fans want him in the OF.

Yep. Remember the game we lost because of a 9th inning error on Scivique at 1B when Coach could have inserted Cade at C and moved Moore to 1B?

ETA: I think Coach actually admitted his mistake after the game.
