You guys think Romero and Adams will have a role this year? Romero kind of fizzled out last year. Would like to see bigger bodies at the plate.

I'm hoping one of Romero, Adams, or Coomes steps up this year to provide a power bat behind Deichmann. To me this team needs one more guy in the lineup that can mash.

PM doesn't put any emphasis on power.

Coomes was recruited specifically for his power...the fact that he's worked his way up to backup catcher is an unexpected bonus. Now it's up to Nick to hit like he did at LSUE

You're right he doesn't. Who do you have batting behind Deichmann to start the year ell?

If I had to make a lineup today:

Freeman 2B
KRob SS
Deichmann RF
Slaughter 1B
Bryce DH
Smith 3B
Breaux LF
Pap C
Duplantis CF

Coomes was picked up specifically because we need an experienced catcher for next year. Pap and Romero are gone after this year. If he can help this year too, that's just bonus.

Not true...he was recruited as a 3rd baseman and for his bat

That you said a guy that had hit 5 home runs at the time he signed with LSU was recruited for his power.

They had just finished a fall schedule where he hit 9 HRs in about 25 games

Are you suggesting that our starting catcher next year was always planned to be either Woley or Bryce Jordan? Seriously?

That's not entirely true. He didn't really have all that much catching experience. He got some starts here and there his freshman year at LSUE, but Jordan Romero got most of the work. Then his Soph year he was primarily 3rd base with LSU commit Hunter Feduccia getting the bulk of the work.

It was always about his athleticism (former HS QB, as Mainieri loves), his bat, and his potential to help behind the plate.

He played 3rd at LSUE, but based on what Mainieri likes at 3rd, he ain't got a prayer of getting consistent playing time there for LSU. Too many errors. Wayyyyy too many.

And he followed that up with 13 HRs in spring season

I agree with you there...he did make too many errors at 3rd last year, but he had already committed by then

I'm very well aware of that.

And I was going to say this.

He was a really good catcher at Catholic and he can play that position much better than 3B where we already have/had a backlog. 100% it's not where he was recruited to play.

He was 5th on LSUE with those 5 HRs. ULL OF Steven Sensley his 21 that year. Maryland OF Madison Nickens hit 6. Romero hit 6. And a guy named David Lafleur that now plays D2 ball in Arkansas hit 9.
