From ncaa website:
quote:
As a minimum, lightning safety experts strongly recommend that by the time the weather monitor observes 30 seconds between seeing the lightning flash and hearing its associated thunder or by the time the leading edge of the storm is within six miles of the venue, all individuals should have left the athletics site and be within a safer structure or location. Individuals just entering the outdoor venue should be directed to the safer location. Use the Flash to Bang method to estimate the distance between your location and the lighting flash (See Table 1).

I was playing golf at 4:30 in denham and could hear the thunder by 5:30.
Well I live 2 miles from campus and didn't hear thunder until around when it was delayed.

Prior to the game this was in the advocate. The decision to pitch Lange was made yesterday. With the forecasts looking so bad all day Friday, they wanted to put Lange in the game they felt best about getting in without putting it right up against the SEC Tournament.
quote:
Forecasts show a 90 percent chance of rain throughout Friday, when Lange was originally scheduled to pitch. Mainieri feared a postponement to Saturday would hinder Lange’s availability in the SEC Tournament, where LSU could begin play as early as Tuesday.
“It scared me that if we don’t play Friday, he has to pitch Saturday and he wouldn’t be able to pitch in the SEC Tournament until next Friday,” Mainieri said. “Who knows if you’re in the SEC Tournament next Friday? So you run the risk of playing a tournament without him pitching once.”

And yesterday, it was a good decision. I just don't think he should have stuck to it as the information changed.

2016 SEC Inclement Weather Policy from the SEC baseball media guide:
quote:
OTHER
1. Authority to Rule on Game Stoppage
The umpire-in-chief has sole authority to suspend, postpone, or cancel the game
if conditions become unfit for play.
2. Lightning Strikes
A. Each member institution shall be responsible for having the capability to
determine when lightning strikes are within specified distances from the competition site. When lightning is detected within 10 miles of the competition site, home team game management shall utilize the public address system to inform those in attendance that inclement weather including lightning is within 10 miles and that should patrons vacate the facility for safe shelter, they will be allowed to re-enter with a ticket stub. When lightning is detected within eight miles of the competition site, the competition shall be suspended.
B. Competition may be resumed after 30 minutes of no detected lightning strikes within an eight mile radius.
C. A 10 minute warm-up period may be granted following the 30 minute suspension

LOL, Chill out Fred. Here is what I said.... "Tough luck for young kids taking final exams tomorrow." This was when ESPN was reporting that they were resuming Game 1 tomorrow.
I wasn't inferring that they take those kids into consideration for rescheduling.
As a parent of 12 & 9 year old boys, I can sympathize with our "young fans" who want to see ALL of the games this weekend.
It's all good though, now they can. GEAUX TIGERS
