Word is that Mason Templet is transferring out to a JUCO and Rankin Wooley has been released from the team. Nothing official(in print)yet from CPM but official roster doesn't list either player. Roster now down to 33 for 2018.......

Woley is definitely gone and is off roster.
Did not know about Templet though.

Disappointed Templet isn't sticking around, kind of saw the writing on the wall for Woley.

That leaves them two extra spots for this year, will probably add a walk on or two for a one year deal and they would have to tryout again next year.
Woley and Templet is normal attrition, you need those spots with the large classes waiting to come in.

I had heard Templet was looking to go way back in the summer. But it's one of those rumors that's in the early stages and kids can change their mind.

quote:Eh. You'd rather have a full roster than not. Both Templet and Woley add depth and could be real contributors down the road. Does it mean we get to have a bigger class next year? Of course. But that doesn't mean we get 2 players as good as Woley and Templet thanks to the scholarship limits.

Templet hasn't shown anything close to the hype he came in with.

Puts us, as previously mentioned, at 33/35 with Walker still not counting toward the 35.
For 2019 season with the class that just signed, their departures put us at 49/35.

It will all work out
If LSU wanted they could not count Walker this year due to his injury but it's irrelevant now.

It's like people completely forget about a guy like Watson and how he started. A "no name" during the fall, he was a complete afterthought in the outfield behind Breaux, Beau, Duplantis, and Deichmann. Then he turns into one of our most reliable, clutch hitters and maybe our best defensive outfielder (when you take arm into account).

I know Landon Marceaux early enrolling has kind of lost steam, but there is space now if he ended up wanting to/being able to do that.
I guess it's also possible for a very late JUCO add, but that's pretty unlikely as it can piss off a JUCO coach that you would want to maintain a relationship with.

Yeah, his quick transition to playing high level OF defense, his arm, his speed, and his power are reasons this is likely to be his last season at LSU. He completely abused the Northwoods league.
Also, this won't warrant it's own thread for a while, but Cabrera will be playing for Bourne in the Cape league and Webre will be playing for Harwich.
Those are the only two assignments I've found so far.

Next year scares me more than this year because we are losing Hess, Gilbert, and Watson and maybe Duplantis and Slaughter. Slaughter would have to have a great season to go, imo. He's not there yet. So we may only have Walker and Smith left playing from our 2017 run... That would suck.

What’s the story with Woley? I liked him

Hate to hear this, but, it's LSU baseball, so I'm all in.
Sure gonna miss Rakin Rankin, liked his attitude and aggressiveness.
Appears some of those Georgia kids can't seem to make an impact at LSU.

Didn't know Watson was eligible to leave? Guessing his birthday was early....do you think he would leave?
