yeah I was kidna confused by that but apparently because he was half way to 2nd he gets the extra base.
I don't know what the letter of the law is so I'm not sure if its correct or not. If its a judgement call aka if the ball didn't go in the dugout how far should he be allowed to go then he should get second, or if he is or was approaching a base he gets one extra base then that was the correct call.
