The baseline should be top-5 recruiting. Win your bowl game and finish in top-5 every year (Bobby Bowden and, at first, Les Miles were great at this). THEN, every three years or so the planets align, a special player and the right team leadership emerge to have us compete for a championship. It took Kirby Smart like 4 years to scale the mountain - CBK can and will do it too.

9-3 because of JD. When you have a defense ranked in the 100's. That's f'ing embarrassing.

I like that our team was better this year by pretty much all the advanced metrics.

I like that out team was better this year, as a result of the unprecedented improvement by Daniels.
Daniels play/performance was the only reason we had a winning record.

We improved offensively but the regression of the defense overshadowed it.

basically Les Miles but everyone got frustrated that he hamstrung the offense.

It's like the opposite problem with Kelly. Better really hunker down and get that defense fixed this offseason.

The 7-12 are all going to mostly get blown out.

The 3 and 4 teams have regularly been blown out.

The playoff for football is quite frankly stupid. It's not like March Madness where low seeds can legit upset a top ranked seed. It was always about the money. They should have left the BCS alone so that more bowl games actually mattered.

1 thing that would immediately help is dont lose the opening game against USC next season. Starting the seaosn in a hole the last several years has been difficult to overcome.

Sure, but it means even less with a 12 team playoff
bullshite.

If it were this season, and we opened with an unranked team, we're likely 10-2 and would be in line for the playoffs.
See: Penn State.

If you lose OOC, you basically have to roll through the conference schedule undefeated, 1 loss at worst. Look at Alabama- if this were next season, they're in for now, but drop to the bubble if they lose to UGA. That loss to Texas makes it risky. And if they were a different brand (say, Missouri), it likely eliminates them.

You want a big matchup? You get that in the playoffs. Objectively, it makes little sense to risk a loss in the regular season now.
