Austin Bain draft prospects hurt?

Before everyone craps on me, I am just asking, I don't know. I am just wondering if maybe Austin Bain is being done a great disservice as far as draft prospects go, by getting little to no playing time at pitcher. As I see it a decent pitcher is more likely to find a home in MLB than a great utility player. I base this on my impression that there are a ton of utility players trying to find a home in MLB that end up bouncing around the minors. Scouts aren't getting a chance to see him pitch, and he isn't getting a chance to develop further because LSU finds itself devoid of clutch hitters
except Bain of course. Don't get me wrong, I love Bain and believe he has become the heart and soul of this team. His "can do attitude" and willingness to play anywhere is refreshing to see. It's just something I was wondering. Maybe he is best as an infielder and batter.

No. He was no better as a pitching prospect than a hitting one.

He wasn’t getting drafted as a pitcher. Too many right handers throwing 89 already crowding the minors. If anything playing the field helped him a bit. Someone might throw a 40th round pick at him as an athlete that can save them money.

I'd be shocked if he's drafted before the 30th round.....

ETA: For those who think my comment above is serious, it's an inside joke for those who've been posting here for a while. I made a similar post about a former LSU player and he was drafted in the 6th round and I've caught grief over my prediction ever since....

Didn't he already say something along the lines of playing for LSU was his major leagues?

I bet if you ask him if he feels he is being used & abused, he will tell you this is the most fun he has had as a Tiger in his 4 years here!

MLB doesn't draft based off of stats. They look for talent, and draft accordingly. There are many stories of pitchers with very few career innings and they get on the mound in front of the right scout at the right time and gets drafted and perhaps makes a career out of it. The MLB scouts have seen plenty enough of Bain to make a decision on his draft status as a pitcher.

NO!!!

My cousin went to JUCO in Texas out of Highschool as a pitcher. He had Tommy John surgery after his freshman year and sat out the entire sophomore season. ULL gave him a scholarship as a position player and he played there two years without pitching hardly any innings but he was a starting infielder on the 2000 CWS team.

After his senior year he got drafted as a pitcher by the Yankees without throwing a pitch for 3 years!

Bain will be fine and MLB will find him don't worry.

Big Ben said last night he doesn't want to play pro ball or something along those lines. What's his major? Apparently he has a career in the work force

Sports Administration. He was SEC Academic Honor Roll in 2016.

Everything you said is true except this. Bain would be wise to forego any pro baseball, unless he wants to take a flyer on his hitting career. He does not have major league potential as a pitcher. The only thing that keeps me from saying the same about his hitting is that he has never received coaching on that.

However, I doubt he could develop into a better hitter than Blake Dean, Mason Katz, or Raph Rymes.

He only throws a fastball, albeit one with some ridiculous spin on it. That’s not going to get him drafted.

Not everyone goes or plays pro. He’s getting the experience of a lifetime.

I hope he still makes it though.
