Holy crap we should go hard after every recruit we would want this year and next! With the hiring of their new OC administration is telling Gus you have ONE year to impress us or you are history after 2019!!!!!! And with Gus now calling plays adding to his duties his chances of that just went down considerably!!!!! He is a lame duck coach at this point we need to get their recruits that we would want!!!

Hes not a lame duck HC. Hes beaten Bama multiple times, won sec played for multiple sec championships and a natty.

Auburn fans and administration simply have less tolerance for failure than LSU. Ed wouldn't have gotten a second year, ...and that's not a knock on him, just shows you the coaching accountability you have to have to win championships... not just 10 win seasons

Gus was 1 second away from being fired in 2016. Instead, the LSU TD was waived off; Les got fired and Auburn went to the Sugar Bowl.

In 2017 Gus was on the perpetual "hot seat" once again after blowing a big lead vs. LSU. He then went on to beat both UGA and Bama...blowing out UGA and giving Bama their biggest loss since 2010. Auburn would have been in the playoff had they not had to play UGA one more time (thus allowing Bama to backdoor their way to the NC)

In 2018 it fell apart again and Auburn fans want to fire him once more.

Point being, don't count him out. Just when AU is done with him he sucks them back in.

It is different this time unless Gus goes a minimum of 10wins "and that might not be enough" and a New Years 6 bowl or he is history. Did you read the resume of his OC hire??? Read the article this guy was managing a football camp in Scottsdale Az only 4 years ago. And was a grad asst only 2 years ago at Memphis. Look I am not saying it can't be done, Gus could prove everyone wrong and go 12-0, 11-1 or 10-2 next year the question is what is the probability of that? Look at their schedule it is a BEAST next year. They play a resurgent Oregon team to open up in Dallas, and have away games at TAMU, Florida, and LSU. The only bright spot for them is their last 4 games are at home but they include UGA and Bama. So to say it can't be done "a 10win or better season" but the likelihood of that is very slim looking at their schedule and the fact is it probably won't happen. A lot of things can transpire in the off-season to change a team but if we were starting the new season in Jan. you would put losses up for games against TAMU, UF and LSU because they are all away. And you would also put losses on the games against UGA and Bama. That is a 5 loss season again and Gus won't make it past the LSU game if it played out that way. 3 losses before the UGA and Bama games next year with no shot at a New Years 6 bowl basically at that time means he would get shite canned half way through the season.

AU will just throw more money at them until they can't say no. As long as they have the cabin and Garner on staff they will land recruits.

Hmm.

Sounds like they have a head coach who can lock down one side of the ball.

I know somewhere else I’d like to see that transpire.

There's a lot speculation, inference in that article but obviously something is fubar on the "plains". It's never good when an administration undercuts or sabotages it's head coach like Ole Miss did with Orgeron.
The good news is that it will cause years of damage to Auburn unless Malzahn pulls a rabbit out of his arse.

It really doesn't work that way. Yes money is given to recruits, whether people want to believe it or not it is a fact, but not every recruit. They won't just start backing up a dumpster truck with cash in it, they will get caught that way and things will just get worse for them.

No Gus is a one and done guy unless they hit 10 wins and a New Years 6 bowl.

Why? Because he hired a young relatively inexperienced to be the OC? All that means is Gus is going to be the OC and play caller...something he's had great success doing over the course of his career. He probably just decided he's the best OC for the team. And if that is the case, why overpay for a OC whose playcalling abilities you don't think are better than yours? Just hire a young, hungry guy to serve as OC (in name only).

Auburn fans are as bad as LSU fans in that they perpetually want their coach to be fired. In 2013 he takes AU from winless in the SEC (2012) to the national championship game...with a DB at QB. Two years later the Auburn fans are screaming for him to be fired. He's had to recruit virtually every year with a cloud of "imminent doom" hanging over his head. This is nothing new.

Sure Gus can take over OC duties, but can he sprint down the sidelines and call timeout when the DC tells him to? Can he watch the game without being able to give any input on the playcalling whatsoever? Can he essentially go grab a hot dog during the 3rd quarter and not be missed, at all? That, my friend, takes real talent

If you have been paying any attention to what is going on at Auburn the rumors were administration wouldn’t allow Gus to offer more than a year contract to Freeze, that coupled with who he hired as his new OC and all the rumors coming out of Auburn regarding Gus has one more year to right the ship shows me that. The OC hire is just more evidence that is the case!

Look at the comparative W/L records of LSU and Auburn by seasons, since 2013 (the beginning of the Gus Era) and tell me who has more or less tolerance for failure and frustration. I believe LSU has a better record than Auburn over that period, and a MUCH better record this season.

Have, gus had 1 good season in 2012. He did have Alabama # as much as anyone has though, but 7 years with only 1 year of less then 4 losses, and 2 years of less then 5... yeah he is a great coach. We will see if ed can do anything better. But right now he is making progress. Next year needs to be the measuring stick. He has had 2 years to settle in. Next year I'm ready to see the program turn in a 1 loss year I could maybe be happy with 3 losses. We will see
