9. LSU

Pros: It’s become a bit of a cliché, but there really is nothing like being in Tiger Stadium on a Saturday night in the fall. That environment is one reason the Tigers are able to recruit so well. The other? The state of Louisiana is arguably the most underrated talent producer in the nation.

Cons: LSU has so much going for it, but why have so many coaches failed to win at a high level in Baton Rouge? From 1971 though 2000, the Tigers only won one outright SEC championship, in 1986 under Bill Arnsparger.

Final Verdict: It’s hard to find a reason why LSU would not be a desirable coaching position. Sure the competition is tough and the fans are demanding, but that comes with the territory. The school has won two national titles in the past 11 seasons.

Notre Dame and Georgia should be flipped.

Because we couldn't beat Bear Bryant in the 1970s. And we went bargain shopping for every coach we hired from 1981-1999.

In December of 1999 we shocked the college football world by offering a new coach the third highest contract in college football. Thank you Mark Emmert for changing the way we did things at LSU.

Idk how Texas, USC, ND, and Bama aren't 1-4 in any order. Followed by maybe florida, for location. Then LSU or Ohio State

CFB was very different in the 70's, so that is not really relevant. The biggest reason for the underachieving before 2000 is LSU was not putting resources into the program. We hired bad coaches because our AD was running the Ath Dept on a shoe string budget. Once we started pouring resources into the program and hired a coach that could use the resources, we've been succesful. As long as that continues, LSU will continue to win.

ND's a tough job. Prestigious sure, but it probably has the highest Expectations to Difficulty ratio on that list, when you factor in academic standards, location and schedule. Other than that, I agree.

As to his rankings, I'd have UGA and LSU ahead of OU and Michigan.

Texas and Florida are easily 1 and 2. Flagship schools in 2 of top 3 states for talent. I could make a much better argument that Florida is #1 than #5.

Notre Dame has to recruit nationally which is tougher than people think. It's much easier to keep kids close to home.

I have no problem with his top 5 : Texas, Florida, Bama, tOSU and USC. I'd put UGA and LSU next and A&M is moving up the list fast.

At least they were smart enough to get rid of "their" Ron Zook and move on to win a few MNC's in the process.

When DiNardo was fired, Steve S. stated LSU was on of the top five jobs in the country.
