Team showed many signs of being fundamentally unsound yesterday.

My best guess is it makes them feel manly.

The team was better when Pokey was fricking the players.

I think he is on the hot seat now, to be honest. Folks in the athletic building are watching things. I think the problem is this...watching the team as much as I do (I make all the home games and follow the road games on TV/radio), it looks like the players don't respond to him. I kinda get it. I am sure when the players were recruited, it seemed like a good idea..."go play for a coach who won the Olympics and won titles in the WNBA". In reality though, what are a bunch of (mostly) black, college females, going to have in common with a late 60's white man? All that having been said, he is on the verge of leading this team to the NCAA's for the umpteenth straight year, so it isn't all bad I think.

Honestly, I think he IS on the hotseat. There are a bunch of upset "money" folks in the Fastbreak club. From what I've heard, the AD is DEFINITELY watching the situation.

Van has done a good job recruiting players. Has he gotten a recruit as highly touted as Seimone or Sylvia....................? Nope, but he's recruited numerous McDonalds all americans over this past three years. But does anyone on this team look like they were an all american in high school? Nope.

The problem with this team, and I've followed the team for many years now, is the head coach. Offensively, this is the most poorly coached team I've seen at LSU in at least 13 years. Defensively, which is what coach Starkey handles, they're great. Anyone who watched the last minute of that game yesterday will tell you they are one of the most undisciplined teams on offense, in the NCAA. They're horrible.

As for the NCAA, don't bet on it. Before yesterday's game LSU's RPI was in the mid 40s. UK was in the top 20. A win would've have vaulted LSU into the top 40, which is generally what it takes to get an at large bid to the tournament. After the loss they will drop slightly and their remaining games are at Arkansas (RPI #53), home against SC (RPI #50) and at Tennessee(RPI #3). LSU will more than likely lose to Tennessee which would give them 11 losses. Even if they beat the other two teams, their RPI will not be high enough to get an at large bid at 19-11. The only way they could make it at that point would be to win the SEC tournament. That ain't happenin' with Van as the coach.

Who cares? It's women's basketball.
It's the highest profile sport for female athletes in college, so LSU should care a little.

I think 19-11, plus a win or 2 at the SEC, will be good enough. Wins over Arkansas and S. Carolina will boost the RPI a little bit...Ark and SC are on the edge of being top 50, so that is actually good, and the Tennessee game, even if a loss, will boost strength of schedule. If we get to 20-12, we are in. NO SEC team has ever been turned down with 20 wins.

Did Baylor's coach Kim Mulkey interview for the job?

LSUGrad9295, I sure hope you're right. And yea, they will get a boost in SOS when they play UT but, the loss may offset that in the RPI. If they go into the SEC tournament with an RPI in the same place as it is today (#47), they'll have slim hopes. Plus keep in mind they won't get the first round bye that we've gotten for the past 10 or so years. So, then we'll have to win a quarterfinal game against a team that will be rested...........and who may end up being Tennessee, or Vandy...............both of which I don't think this LSU team could beat.

This team has an uphill battle to make the tournament and, even if they do, is that what we're supposed to be happy with.............................three straight years of losing in the second round?

No, it's time for Van to go. I've been watching the team these past three seasons and this current class of juniors, who were the #3 recruiting class in the nation as freshmen, have shown ZERO improvement from then to now.........................and at the same time, Van lets Theresa Plaisance and Shanece McKinney languish on the bench..............

For the umpteen bajillionith time (not to you, but on this board in general), Mulkey is locked up at Baylor for 8 more years at $1 million per year. Even at the time Van was hired, she was more than happy at Baylor and would not have left to come here, even if we wanted her bitchy arse. I don't get all the love for her.

If we go 2-1, I think the RPI will likely be upper 30's, which would be fairly "safe". The day after we beat Auburn, it jumped like 5 places and Auburn's RPI at the time was similar to what S. Carolina and Arkansas' are now.

If we lose either of those 2 games, it is going to get really nervous in the Van camp.

I hope you're right. But I think it's already nervous in the "Van Camp". I'm just hoping he does the honorable thing and steps down after the season. I was listening to the post game show yesterday and he was talking about how he has "no answers" as to why this team is playing poorly and, his tone gave the impression that he was defeated. I just can't see that he's going to have the energy to get it done in the future. I'd actually be happy if they let Travis take over and have Starkey as HIS assistant. I guarantee this team would be a lot better.

Played for LA Tech in their glory days and she has done a pretty good job coaching at Baylor. To be honest, not sure why you wouldn't think she would do well at LSU.

Fixed it for you. I knew Van wasn't the one to hire after running Pokey off.

Not LSU.

She doesn't like LSU.
She is a major bitch.
She is perhaps a little dirty on the recruiting trail (at least Pokey thought so, fwiw)

He was the classic overreaction hire. Safe old white guy with a bow tie. He did his job as far as keeping the program out of controversy but yes it the overall state of the program has dropped. I think that he steps down this year and lsu makes a decent hire. Im not gonna lie though, I have no clue what the landscape looks like as far as coaches except that Mulkey-Robertson isn't leaving Baylor for a few years.

She has been living off of Brittney Griner these days.
Before then she has had some relatively mediocre teams after the National Title they won in '05.

Well, I don't think it's fair to say she's "living off of" Griner. She's done a wonderful job recruiting. She had the #1 recruiting class in the nation a couple of years ago. Plus this year they added Odyssey Sims and Brooklyn Pope. Nobody wins NCAA championships without great players. So, her having Griner is no different than Geno having Maya Moore or Diana Tuarasi.

She's a great coach. But I don't think that there's anyway that she leaves Baylor to come here.

At what point is Tony Minnis on the hotseat? DD Breaux? Yvette Guirard? Whoever the swimming and diving coach is? Other coaches that have a job for life at LSU?

If you coach a woman's sport at LSU, you never have to look over your shoulder.

Bingo! I don't understand if you are going to the spend (or waste as many on this board seem to think)the amount of that the department spends on these programs, why don't you expect them to compete for championships?
