That's probably true...............and that's beyond anyone's control. People are gonna like what they're gonna like. The only thing that baffles me is when people down or belittle sports other than football, when ALL of them are representing LSU. That, to me is baffling.
But, to each his own I guess.................

quote:That was done this past off season. Got rid of the swimming head coach. I was hoping that would be the start of trying to get mediocrity out the door. I know football and baseball are the most popular sports but we're getting pretty beaten up in a bunch of sports we used to be very competitive in. It's time to show a number of these coaches the door.
Whoever the swimming and diving coach is?

As a longtime LSU Lady Tiger supporter and fan I am so glad to discover the "Rant". lsualum96 - You are right on target re: players and coaching. Players such as Black, Hughes,Jones, etc. have just not been developed to their potential. They show very little improvement from year to year.
Offense - There seems to be no offensive schemes for this team. They do not set good offensive picks, they are slow to recognize when players are open and slow to get the pass out. They do not look like a TEAM just individual players forcing the shot.
Substitutions - Van does a horrible job at substituting. No continuity, no flow. There have been several instances when we need points, yet no shooters are in the game.
Talent - LSU has 3 ESPN Top 100 freshman - Kenney, McKinney and Plaisance. Mckinney is known as a defensive threat yet he has never really given her the chance. And in several games, her size may have helped when we were faced with offensive mis-matches.
Plaisance - a local favorite, has also not really been given a chance. He puts her in for a minute then yanks her out.
Kenney - was primarily known as a point guard and has seen very little time at that position. Also, in the game vs. Florida, I think, she had the chance to beat the LSU freshman record of 3 pointers made in a game, 5. She was tied with that record, had 2 assists, then with 5 minutes left in the game, he pulled her out and didn't put her back in.
2-3 years ago, Starkey was actively coaching from the bench. You just don't see that level of involvement from him anymore.
As a fan, it is obvious the program isn't working under this coach and needs change. Every game they lost, other than Connecticut, they had a chance to win. Very frustrating!

I must take exception with a few of your comments.
I can sit here and tell you who he is going to put in, and when they will come in. Kenney is usually first off the bench to spell Graham. Then Graham comes back a little later to spell Webb. Depending on how the point guard is doing, sometimes Hughes is next. Jones will come in for Turnbow/Barrett for a while, then whoever left will come back and replace the one who hasn't rested yet. Sounds like a pattern to me. I thought his move to have Eason and Hughes in the Kentucky game at the same time was a good move...gave us an extra ball handler and slowed down the turnovers.
Who cares if she is a local favorite. Van is here to win games, not please the Plaisance crowd. He put her in for a minute against Auburn then yanked her out. Why? She gave up 3 straight offensive rebounds. At 6'5, she was in to prevent that from happening. Do your job, or sit the bench.
Kenney was brought here to be a shooting guard and back-up point guard. She and Graham have shared the role some, but that isn't her main job. Why did he take her out in the Florida game with 5 minutes left?? Because we were up 20 and he wanted to let the bench play. Getting players records is not what Van is paid to do.
Be aggravated with the coach...but just make better points.

From the title I assume the women's team now sucks

Isn't Van over 70? They need to retire him and get a women who can recruit top players. His recruiting has gone down with his age.

NOW! Recruiting is the lifeblood of any program and a coach who doesn't coach at practice; who doesn't attend coaches' meeting; who confuses his team with mixed messages and instructions leading to the players frustration...it's time for Van to get in the Vanwagon and head into retirement,
