As predicted, Savion Jones is headed inside

When the DT meltdown dominated the board, myself and a couple of others predicted Jones and Shand would move inside to DT positions. There were skeptics which is their right but Brian Kelly in his media session mentioned Jones potentially moving inside saying he wasn't necessarily an edge guy. One prediction about to come true...wait for it... wait for it...Shand will be next.

It seems like you don’t understand the argument. I think most here knew those 2 would be tried inside.
Most people have been saying that just because you slide 2 280lb edge guys inside does not mean you are in good shape at DT. They are just bodies. It does not mean the can hold their ground with the big boys.

This is not a good thing

He was a decent edge guy until the staff decided to add 30 lbs to him

We need big time DT transfers for this year. That’s all that needs to be said

“He’s not as much of an edge as he is playing a 4 technique”. This was the first thing he said. Do you know what a 4t is? Basically a 3-4 DE lol.
His next comments it sounds like you mixed up. He didn’t say he was heading inside. He said he can play inside.
He and Shand both saw snaps to DT last year so this isn’t some huge ground breaking news.

Jones can’t run out of sight in a month, it’s a good move.

That is inaccurate. There were more saying that would not happen than said it would. Weight was mentioned as one factor as if 280+ wasn't big enough.

IMO, that is also not accurate. I have said that Jones is more of a body...at least on the edge...but Shand is not an average player. He is above average and simply didn't get enough playing time.

Every play I saw Jones on the field, he was not playing DT. Not saying it didn't happen but to act like Jones was playing inside a lot is simply not factual. As far as me mixing up Kelly's comments, no I did not. That is the type of statement a coach makes when the transition is coming. But hey, you seem the type to argue with a brick wall, so have at it.

PFF charted both jones & Shand with snaps at DT in 2023.
But hey you didn’t see it so it didn’t happen

You just skipped over the part him playing 3-4 end. Which isn’t an edge player or a DT dude lol

Oddly enough his freshman year he absolutely looked like an outside guy.

Didn't say it didn't happen. Hey guy, I know you like to argue with everyone but at least try to accurately quote people. Geez man, you really need to get over arguing with everyone and misquoting people. Over and out with you! Post another 277K posts the vast majority I would bet just arguing over nothing and misquoting people.

And no, you are very much misrepresenting & misunderstanding what he said. And people are bound to repeat it

We got Womack Reliford and a bunch of other guys we’ll be fine at DE
Posted on 3/24/24 at 9:18 am to NotaStarGazer
Kelly never said he was playing inside

To be honest, I haven't kept up with him his entire career, but several posters have mentioned the added weight. All I know is I saw some average speed QBs turn the corner on Jones this season. He was definitely too slow to be a contain guy on the end of the DL.

This is what I said "mentioned Jones potentially moving inside saying he wasn't necessarily an edge guy". I have watched it multiple times and any objective poster would agree with what I posted. Maybe you need to watch it again. He WILL end up inside.
Not responding to anything you said but it utterly amazes me that some people think LSU needs big time DT transfers or whatever. I have said before and it is 100% true, there is not a team in college football that has studs at every single position. You need SEC caliber starting DT but they do not have to be all SEC or whatever.

19 yesr old kid growing is unpredictable and it seems to be a natural thing for him.

Jones is built like an inside guy and a
3-4 end is more of a DT than a DE in a 4 man front. Shand seems like more of a big 4 man front edge, so don’t see him being a great DT other than in pass rush situations.
This doesn’t make out DT situation any more positive really.
