Miles knows how to pick assistants. That's the key. Recruiting, execution, inspiration, etc. .all come from being a good leader. He picks his coaches well.
And yeah....he's a fun coach to watch...sounds like he's having fun too.

I'm saying I think he's finally gotten past the horrific brain farts.
Has anyone noticed that all of the "brain farts" occurred when Crowton was the OC. I think the "shoot from the hip" style that Miles has is a myth mostly perpetrated by Less hinmself.

But since the Tennessee debacle last year, it seems to me like there hasn't been anything terrible (maybe the TD Arky had at the end of the 1st half last year).

Since he took the keys away from Crowton, the offense has been improving in every game.

Kind of like Jim Haslett and Carl Smith? Oh wait.

Funny thing is no matter how bad Saban screws up Bama fans will find something else to blame it on.

Yep. #1 chief tenet of the Church of Saban, which they've all bought into hook, line, and sinker -- Nick has NEVER been, and will NEVER be, responsible for a loss. If the scoreboard happens to show more points for the opponent than his team when the clock expires, it's simply a "break down in the process" and more particularly, a breakdown on the part of those following his process, never him.

I gotta hand it to the guy, though. It's a beautiful construct he's set up for himself, ain't it?

Just sounds so back-handed to me.....you DO realize EVERY coach needs competent/detailed help or it would NOT work at this level.

You are taking it the wrong way, and not sure why. Miles surrounded himself with incompetence, and not even you can argue with that. From the CO-DC debacle to keeping Crowton too long. Every coach is only as good as their hires, and LSU fans have been waiting a few years for Miles to put the puzzle together.

Not sure how in the hell you can take that as some back handed compliment.

Miles doesn't "shoot from the hip." Just keep in mind that every goofy play which we run has been drawn up and practiced extensively ahead of time.

FWIW, I'be been told that Miles wanted Crowton gone after 2009, but was overruled by the Athletic Department.

I honestly did not expect the resurrection that Miles has brought about in the last couple of years. The program seemed to be in a predictable downward slide. The players coming in weren't as good, the guys playing sometimes looked clueless and then you have the coaching blunders.

But Miles fixed it and has brought us back to a level where honestly I don't think we've ever been. We were never this good - not in 2003 and not in 2007. I have to eat crow too. I had lost faith in Miles.

Arky's TD before the half was entirely on Chavis for not calling a prevent defense against a hail mary type of play.

Jersey - I understand your sentiments about Saban's "process" and Miles' "brain farts." I have seen a number of people on the Rant and the SEC Rant echo this. But, do you really believe that Saban has never had any brain farts, despite this process? Serious question. I'm not trying to flame or anything, but rather get your opinion.

IMHO, all this talk about Saban's process overlooks several of the more prominent brain farts by Saban and Saban coached teams, i.e. loss to UAB, loss to ULM, loss to Utah, loss to Iowa, leaving Mauck in the game at Florida in a blow out 1+ quarters too long, etc.

Additionally, I think all of this talk about Saban's process overshadows (or neglects) the fact that a number of former LSU players (from Saban's last few years at LSU) genuinely disliked Saban and playing for him.

I too have questioned Miles in the past though I don't think it ever got to the point of me saying he should go. I used to compare him to my wife, who I love dearly but does wacky shite that makes me ask what the hell she was thinking.

These days, I'd compare him to my wife on a two-month logic-using-rational-acting-sandwich-making-bj-loving-action-movie-watching binge.

It may be, but the general perception is what matters, unfortunately.

As a huge Miles doubter, I wanted to say this BEFORE the game
I've always been a Saban homer. I love "the process". I hate Miles' "shoot from the hip". But since the Tennessee debacle last year, it seems to me like there hasn't been anything terrible (maybe the TD Arky had at the end of the 1st half last year).

And I simply can't argue with the product being put on the field this year. I can't argue with the coaching either. In fact, I think it's been about perfect (something I never thought I'd say about Miles).

So, I'd like to eat some crow BEFORE the Bama game and say I was wrong about Miles being long-term successful at LSU. He has been great (maddening at times, but great.)

If LSU loses to Bama tomorrow, I won't feel any different (barring some bizarre end of game clock management issues!).

I have said this before and I will say it here....

I too had my doubts in the past. However, the "grass-eating" episode (or revelation if you will...) was an epiphany for me. I totally understood the man at that point and new we had a good coach and a good man.

Regardless of the outcome of the game... I am glad Miles is a LSU guy!
