Are we really going full melt mode over a guy whom everyone said how terrible he was?

Smith would’ve made the line stable with an incoming dline coach

We have nothing on the DL. If you looked at the 4 championship games, all of them were strong in the trenches. We have no trenches.

Show me someone on roster who is better. We’re rolling with 4 defensive tackles right now. So yea you’re goddamn right I’m melting

Like I posted in another thread, until late in the bowl game, I would have been fine with him leaving. But, then he showed me that maybe he was turning the corner and could shine next year.

Oh well, will never know.

he had less than 2.5 tackles a game. I think we will be alright.

if you can replace him with someone just as good in the portal why does it matter?

He’s a large DT, how many do you want him to get?

Poor recruiting at DT by Kelly. Even if you think you’re gonna retain your DTs, which he thought he would, you still recruit like they’re going pro

People keep missing the point of it isn’t about Smith, it’s about what’s behind him. There isn’t a DT on the roster that would start on a playoff caliber team next year.

Jefferson was pretty large and a backup most the year and he had 36 tackles compared to Maason’s 27. They had the same amount of sacks. Wingo started 4 less games and had 2 more sacks and 2 less tackles. I would want him to produce at least somewhere in that rate.
Would I want him back? Yes. Are we losing even average production from last year? No.

edit: just referring to smith in loss of production. Losing jefferson and wingo hurt more.

Fact is, LSU is not losing much production from Smith. Plug in the next guy and we probably get better results.

Ive got no reason to melt. He was ok but never grew to his potential. Baker will recruit to replace and reload.

Do you understand the difference between last years production and next years potential?

Have you seen the depth chart or lack there of?
