Sacked once. But for the most part not pressured, and definitely not hit more than once or twice.

How the frick can you determine that pass blocking was bad via gamecast...there are literally a dozen different explainations for whatever you see from the feedout there.

I saw no big issues with the OL last night.

They didn't open up that many holes in the running game early, but I felt that the pass protection was good.

That part looks a lot better this year. The problem was JJ taking way too long to do something with the ball (and was he was inaccurate for much of the game when he finally did).

I have noticed an issue with our receivers getting open though. I didn't see many open guys (other than on that wheel route completion) down field though. Vandy seemed to be all over us in coverage at times.

the oline's pass protection was VERY solid last night. There were times I was standing up screaming "RUN! RUN!.....do something!!!!!!"

His hesitation last night was epic.

I even focused on T-Bob a few times and he looked solid as well.....except for the one penalty.

Oline is NOT the problem.

The pass blocking was improved from the first game. There was not that much pressure on JJ. On the one sack he took, he displayed his typical lack of pocket presence. He could have easily stepped outside the tackle box and thrown it away. The run blocking was about the same as UNC, better than adequate. Remember but for the bogus holding call and JJ's mind-numbing 21yard grounding/sack againt the 'Heels, the Tigers would have cracked 200 yards rushing in each of the first two games and that has not happened in many a year. Overall, competition considered, I would rate the Oline play about 20% better than the first two games a year ago. With the youth it will only get better. The only area of the team I see no improvement in to this point is QB. The fact that Leslie got involved in the play-calling in the second half last night probably is a good thing. Taking the reins away from any coordinator is a tough decision. Perhaps Les is ready to make the other tough decisions necessary to help his team reach their full potential.

There was almost no blocking on that play - so I don't really blame him for that one.

But he took longer than I've ever seen him take last night before passing. I don't know what the deal was... He's fortunate that they didn't have a better pass rush because he would have taken a lot more sacks.

I didn't determine it,I was asking. There were a couple fumbles and a sack and many incompletes to make me want to ask. Seemed like a clusterfrick behind the LOS and play by play indicated 3 hurries in first 3 drives.
I take it you didn't read the OP. The one with the NOLA article in it? I guess JK was watching a different game.

Pass blocking wasn't as big an issue as qb making reads fast enough and getting rid of the ball....at some point and time, the qb has to be held accountable for the dismal performance...if you noticed, some of the players were getting frustrated with the passes being thrown,..behind them, down low,..short...everywhere but where it needed to be...CATCHABLE...

The point is just that , when the blocking breaks down pocket presence is the most critical. The frustrating part is he is athletic enough to roll out and toss the ball out of bounds or just head for the boundary. He just seems to vapor-lock at times. He's certainly not the only QB to have that problem. Let's hope he gets over the hump sooner than later.

So you didn't watch the game, but it's not JJ's fault?

Run blocking...when the defense see's that you can't pass,...then running becomes even harder...HAVE TO ESTABLISH ONE OR THE OTHER...they knew we couldn't pass efficiently, so they keyed on run game, and held it down...

I haven't watched the game again but from what I saw, the oline wasn't a huge problem. The only pressure I remember being a really bad read/block by oline was when Barksdale let the DE around and it sacked JJ. Other than that, the other sacks were off blitzes from what I remember and JJ was holding the ball way too long. When you blitz 7, someone is getting through...

He needs to have the pocket presence and hot reads to get rid of the ball. Maybe a great oline could stop a 7 man blitz consistently but LSU doesn't have one and not many teams do.

one thing we saw last night was that if a team wants to put an extra guy in the box to stop the run then LSU should still run the ball because shep and ridley (more so than scott) have the ability to break off long td runs if they break the line of scrimmage. so I say let teams load up the box because there won't be enough players left in the secondary when shep breaks the line of scrimmage. this is a big difference from last year.

The big difference is LSU can actually run block this year due to its size. Even with stacked boxes they were still getting 4 yard runs, which is still fairly impressive. Even on Vandy. We ran into this problem last year. Whenever/if we ever get respect in the pass games, our RBs are going to blow up.
