Douchebag.

But I really don't blame you. I'd feel that way too if my team didn't have to earn it this year.

Nope. I've lived in Bama for a long time and have met countless Bammers. I'd say about 10% are legitimate football fans who really understand the game and know their stuff.

I'd say a full 50% don't know shite about football and just repeat what they hear. The other 40% are so delusional, it's a little scary.

And in that last group, are many whose sole purpose is to worship the program and treat it like a religion. Very Penn St like.

I think their lunatic fringe is bigger and more vocal than any other fanbase. But at the center, Bama fans are pretty much like the rest of us, albeit with a healthy sense of entitlement.

I think it really depends on who we are talking about. The sidewalk fans are nuts. Don't know anything about football and just go with the delusional stuff. One "friend" I have told me that LSU owned Bama on 11/05/11 then walked 5 feet away and said Bama gave the game away. LOL

My friends that are REAL Bama fans admit our teams are very evenly matched but that LSU has better athletes overall and that LSU is deeper. They also think the Bama players need to shut up.

Fairly certain both fan bases have quite a few. Gotta say Tiger fans think the same way about Gumps that Gumps think about LSU fans.

I was pondering this subject yesterday morning during a long drive. As a result, I came up with the following New Year's resolutions/mottos for Bama fans:

"Don't marry your cousin in two-thousand one dozen."

"Don't bang your sister during a twister."

"Into our sisters we delve in 2012."

"One of Santa's elves coaches the gumps in 2012."

And one for LSU fans:

"Another crystal ball on the Tiger's shelves in 2012."

Here a more sensitive one:

"You'll get a fever blister if you bang your sister."

I honestly don't believe they are all like that seeing as how I have had some intelligent real football minded conversations with them. The thing that gets me is the we got shafted mentality. In the Nov 5th game for the Heisman Trophy, on the interception call, etc. I'm sure not all are like this but damn I am sick to death of hearing it. Were the shoes reversed I know some LSU fans would say the same, but I'm positive it wouldn't be near as many. We argue with each other to much to be that united in denial.

I would place the Bama fans in 3 categories:

Bammers - normal fans

Gumps - those who are just too stupid to know better

Updykes - the delusional crazy fringe
