I don't think, for instance, that LSU could've beaten Ohio State under such circumstances
Try saving yourself some face, and quick.
OSU was light years better than that Michigan team last year. You just made one horrible comparison.

LSU lost last year to Kentucky and Arkansas. Can you name the opponents that App State lost to?
I'll shut up and listen.
LSU was better than App State last year. So was Michigan.
The question is: Would App beating LSU this year be a bigger upset than App beating Michigan last year?
We actually won't know until we see the season play out. Michigan ended up being ranked 18th and 19th in the two major polls. We'll have to see where LSU ends up. And, of course, App beating them would have an impact on that.
But, going in, Michigan was rated higher last year than LSU is this year.

Nine times out of ten, that's usually the case so nothing new there.

Not only that, they had a 4th year signal caller who had 3 previous years of starting game experience.
If LSU stumbles a little it is not as odd as a team who's main 3 components on offense were all 4th years with 4 years of game experience in (MM, Henne, and Heart).

I do think Ohio State was somewhat better than Michigan last year when the whole season is taken into account. But "light years?"
Michigan lost at home to Ohio State by 14-3. But the Wolverines also beat Illinois by 10 on the road while Ohio State lost to the Illini by 7. And, yes, Ohio State did pummell Wisconsin at home while Michigan lost to the Badgers on the road.
Whatever. The fact remains that Michigan beat Florida in spite of being at a -4 disadvantage in turnover margin. That is awfully tough to do in cases where the two teams are close to evenly matched physically.
You know that's true.
And think about what I was saying. LSU was +2 in that stat against Ohio State. -4 is a long way from that. It's a difference of 6.
It's not unreasonable at all to say that LSU at -4 would've had a whole lot harder time beating Ohio State than LSU at +2 would have.

If they do it this year, will that be a bigger upset than at Michigan last year?
No offense to LSU, you guys have a great program, but not quite the mystique of Michigan. Right or wrong, IMO, I think we get more recognition for beating #5 ranked UM in the Big House. However, it will take more to beat LSU, as we can't compete with your size, speed, talent, etc. Bottom line, LSU wins. The $64 question is, will LSU win in a blow out or will App keep it respectable?.

LSU will win in a blowout Then most of you happy-appys will disappear from this board. But some will stay because this is just a great site.
Here's to an injury-free game. But you won't enjoy watching it.

I doubt LSU will blow out App. St. LSU has serious issues at QB.

I'm with this guy. This is '08. LSU knows. ASU knows.

Yeah. Keep spewing the national sports media bullshite line. I beg to differ. Just be watching on Saturday.
LSU has very few issues at most other positions and down in the trenches, where games are won, LSU is second to none.

That was also the hardest and most effort they played with all year last year. That was a statement game for them and their outgoing coach, and they only one by one possession against the 5th ranked SEC team. 2nd ranked in one conference barely beating the 5th in the best they played all year, yep they were pretty average last year.
No need to exagerrate. Florida was fourth in the SEC, and Michigan was third in the Big Ten going into the bowls. The SEC also has 1 more team than the Big Ten. Like someone said before, give credit where credit is due. Michigan knocked Florida into fifth place in the SEC on their way to earning second place in the Big Ten, although the coaches poll still made Michigan the third highest rated Big Ten team.
