You are getting down votes because all of the butt hurt basketball and football fans, whom are only fans of those sports. They do not understand baseball and how important it is to have experience on the team. In the 7th, and I still feel we win this game, and this team will only get better.

He is one of the few that actually gets there on a consistent basis. And you want to replace him because he has only won 1 national championship.

When a coach can put together the most talented team in the country on four different occasions in 9 years and make it to the CWS Finals and winning it only once...I'd say that's not really fricking good.

It's Bob Stoops...and make no mistake, he is good.

But good ain't great. Never will be.

Smoke got fired making Omaha and winning. Why? Bc skip was AD and cared about bb. Alleva doesn't give a frick as long as season tickets sales are good.

So if you agree he's good and not great, let's set aside the rest of anyone else's white noise here and focus on something.

Les Miles may have convinced us his humanity is worth adjusting our collective fanbase's expectations downward from winning Division, Conference and National Champions. Dale Brown and probation was the Moses that led us into the Desert LSU Basketball has found itself in since the late 90's.

But baseball is the best program in America. Best facilities. Best fan support. Best tradition. Best of everything. Period. This is a program that expects and is accustomed to not just Omaha. But winning it all once we are there.

So, if you agree that this program is the GD standard bearer for the sport at the collegiate level, and you accept that Pauline is good but not great coach, why are you okay with allowing anything but the best for this program as a coach?

To answer your question with a question now that I've made what I think is a fair point, why is it that folks think you have to have an answer to the equation before they will even admit the equation itself is a problem?

Pauline ain't the answer. But just because we don't have said answer doesn't mean Pauline ain't a problem for us.

This program wasn't built on almost and good.

This program was built on Greatness. Go on the record. Right now. Is Pauline Greatness?

If not, why are you arguing with anyone?

Smoke was fired because the team fell apart during his time there, he missed the field of 64 for the first time since the 80s. You break a 18 year streak of post season baseball people won't be happy. Smoke didn't do well in Omaha. CPM has done better. Smoke may have had some good years but after the success of Skip he had bigger shoes to fill than CPM. CPM > smoke

"Pauline"? What are you? 12?

And I would say his national championship is pretty great wouldn't you?

Not sure if you actually know anything about college baseball but saying lsu is the best at everything is absolutely false. Schools across the country have poured money into baseball and it shows with tons of schools having great facilities. Now of course lsu is on up the list but to think they are head and shoulders above the rest is laughable.

And you thinking lsu has the most tradition is laughable and shows your ignorance in regards to college baseball.

The argument isn't if he is great or not. The argument is could lsu find a better coach. I don't think they can, making CPM the best option.

I know enough to be dangerous. I'm well aware of Dedeaux's double digit titles. I'm not attacking anyone, or ad homineming it up here in an effort to discredit arguments I can't apply logic and reason to. I've tried to make my point and then asked a question about how others frame discussions.

But I'll say this much...why is anyone from a coaching perspective at this level of the sport outside or beyond our grasp? We are flat out the best program in the country and have been since before we built our $40 million dollar bauble.

I disagree that we can't find a better coach. I also am glad we have common ground in re: to Pauline as well.

I've followed Tiger baseball since 1986, and even Skip Bertman had teams, like in 1988 and 1995, that were less than stellar and lost doubleheaders.

Cyclical.

Alabama used to have the 2nd greatest program -- overall -- from 97 to 00. 28-2 anyone?

South Carolina, Ole Miss, State, Florida, Arkansas, A&M, Georgia, and Vandy all have programs that could get a great recruiting class and win a title of any kind within 2-3 years.

We'll be back...we may catch lightning in a bottle ala '08, but right now, we are just on a down cycle.

Coaching? Mebbe. But to blame Dunn is a bit premature and narrow-minded. He's developed some of the best. And they're in the majors already.

For the record, my comments in this thread aren't due to being swept in a doubleheader. I've felt this way for some time. As have other paying customers and boosters of LSU Baseball.

And how many games has he won in Omaha without players left on the roster from Smoke Laval?
