It was a pathetic field on which we lost because we could not run, pass or catch (nothing to do with the field).

I understand. LSU could not have lost because they were beaten in every facet of the game by a better team. It was the playing conditions that did LSU in.

Read what I said again!!! LSU lost because they could not pass, run, or catch. PERIOD. The field was pathetic, but not the reason LSU lost.

Look. I never make excuses for LSU, and I am a die-hard fan. In fact I go out of my way to be objective. What the OP is stating is that the quality of the field took away from the quality of the GAME, nothing to do with the outcome. I know that by the 3rd quarter everyone around me, including myself, thought the game was a huge joke essentially. Receivers were dropping passes left and right, balls sunk straight into the ground, running backs couldn't cut at greater than 40% speed. By the end of the game I hardly gave a shite that we lost.

Hey, I'm a PSU fan and that was by far THE WORST field I have ever seen our team play on (and I've been a fan for 40 years). Would love to play LSU in a series sometime in the near future. But for the 2010 (away) and 2011 (home) seasons we will just have to be content with playing Bama.

I agree. I wrote off the game when I saw how horribly we were playing. The field was a mockery and joke. The ball wouldn't even bounce on a punt. Players (either team) couldn't cut or plant their feet.

Somehow we came back and took the lead...in spite of our own ineptitude. The field was not help for mounting a comeback. Once again, I state we did not lose because of the field.

Agreed. Penn State had to play on the same field, and they won. End of story in terms of the result.

But this thread is about the QUALITY of the game, and how it was a joke to CFB, not that LSU would've won if this and that happened. I told my Penn St. buddy who came with me that the game was a disgrace when we were leading 17-16, and he was agreeing even after the game when they had just won.

Field in the 96 (I think) outback bowl with Auburn was a mess as well. It poured all day. Waterfalls literally down the steps. So much standing water that any tackle slid an extra 5-10 yards. Turf ripped apart every play. Will see if I can find some video to post.

Would love a home and home with LSU. Think it's long overdue. Most of the Penn State fans who were at the game have been posting what great fans LSU has and what a good time they had- despite the field.

True, but it hurts the team who relies on it's speed the most.

Are you speaking of the 108th best offense going into the game? That team that uses all it's speed and depends on it?

The field conditions did not change the outcome of the game as both teams played on the same field.

However, for a bowl that is suppose to be second only to the BCS games the field was garbage and it was poor planning and bad grounds keeping. I mean there was one play i saw where an entire section of sod came up in a square. It did take away from the quality of the play and the game over all. LSU still would have lost but considering the Millions on the line this game should have taken priority when planning over HS championships which only generate thousands in revenue. it hurt the Cap one bowl as a whole.

It was not raining and not a cattle field with greandes. It was slop and loose sod. Both teams played in it. Teams have played in such mess many times before. SOme LSU fans need to stop with the pu**ification of football

Work with Several PSU Engineer fans and NONE were proud of that win - happy, but not proud. The difference ALL pointed out was the lack of ability to cut and gain separation for faster players - including their WR. One pointed out to me that he honestly believed Holliday would have had 2 KR for TD's had the field been even a little drier because he couldn't cut. SO you are absolutely wrong about how fans responded to the field.

I did not start this thread. All I know is how LSU fans are responding. Like babies--some of them here at least.

It took the speed away from us. Took althlticism out of the game...we would have won with our speed on a dry field... As another poster pointed out, it's quite amising to read.

I am a student at the Army War College (Carlisle Barracks, PA). Have six Penn State fans (two are alumni) in my small group (five students, one faculty). All are (understandably) very happy with the win. All complained about the horrible condition of the field, that it was an embarrassment when you consider that it was (supposedly) a major bowl game (rather than a slop fest). All were glad that no one on either team was injured due to the abysmal field conditions.

Good enough?
