Anyone else thought Rueben Randal....

could have have scored on the long pass play in the 2nd half? Seemed like he stepped out of bounds at the 3 instead of running straight in. We still ended up scoring on the jump pass but wondered if anyone else noticed this too.

I saw it and wondered the same thing. I think he gets in if he dives for the pylon.

Can someone link to a clip of this play? The one drive I missed.

Dives for pylon? 15 yard penalty!

I'm pretty sure he had a defender right on him forcing him out
You think he purposely stepped out of bounds instead of scoring? Seriously?

It reminded me of Peterson vs Bama last year. I don't think it was a conspiracy to get JJ in the game. I think he just didn't finish the play.

Yeah, Deangelo Peterson taught that move to him.

He wanted to make sure we could set up the jump pass...duh.

yes, didn't think he was forced out really....maybe his momentum had him going that way already...but looked like he could have scored.

He was leaning toward the sideline, after the last contact with a defender, and couldn't make the adjustment before going out of bounds. IMO, for the first time in his career he showed why he was highly recruited WR.

no, but I agree with the OP -- with a little effort he could have scored. Dive, put you shoulder down and initiate contact.....etc
Would NOT have been a flag if he dove. Would not have been show-boating!

not implying that he stepped out on purpose, just seemed like he had the momentum and speed to get it into the end zone. No conspiracy theories here.

maybe because for the first time in his career he actually had a decent passing qb. as a true freshman i thought he was just as good as lafell who could have been a late 1st or 2nd rd pick

I just re-watched the play
The defender shoved him slightly before he went out, thus it was too awkward for him to get his feet for a dive. And his momentum was carrying him out of bounds.
And how is he going to initiate contact when the defender is behind him?

He stepped out before obvious celebration penalty. Yeah, in slow mo, you could see the corner of his mouth was rising in a smile formation.

i thought he was even limping a bit after the play

Maybe, he was on that tight balancing line and didn't have a lot of choice. It worked out in the end.
He is one helluva deep threat though.
