Little different than in a tiny metal cage on the field while 100k scream, don't ya think?

While drunk fans have always played a part, it's actually the hunger that's been lost. We used to be a fan base that came to the damn stadium with a chip on their shoulders looking to make people respect them. Now, we think we're owed it, and we deserve wins because we're so big time. That's why people leave so early. That's why people don't go ape shite with noise like we used to.

I agree.

The Tiger in the cage is just a side effect of a more casual approach to the game by everyone.

It literally has nothing to do with that. It was a call made by our world class veterinarians for the well-being of the Tiger.

Mike, in a cage in which we can't even see him, on the field 45 minutes before the game, doesn't do anything.

But I'm done.

We can argue all we want, it isn't going to change in your favor. Lets move on and focus on supporting the team in the stadium by being drunk, loud, and relentlessly brutal to our opponent.

So, all those Tigers before Mike that were amped up before the game and then kicked back during the game were scarred for life?

bullshite...

These world class Veterenarians you speak of are also people who have ideals they've bought into, and none of that is supported with any long term effects anyone observed in those Tigers during their lives. I'm pretty sure they're a lot more resilient than they're being given credit for. They're fricking Tigers man, not little puppies, and hell, there are programs with dogs on the field all over this country. Are they scarred for life?

Dude, just stop. You're completely and utterly clueless. Football needs to start so you can bitch about something else.

I've heard from a family member inside the vet program that Mike can handle the noise inside the stadium, but isn't enthusiastic about getting in the cage in the first place, therefore they don't force him to. Despite what some of you think, it's this tiger specifically.

Already did that. His name is Dr. David Baker. This was his response...

quote:

We have some plans to try to encourage Mike to enter his trailer this next season. We will try these out this summer. That’s all we can do. There is no “teaching” him, since he already knows how to get into his trailer. The issue is not lack of knowledge, but is a very natural and normal lack of desire. These are secretive, forest dwelling animals that are rarely seen by people in their natural habitat, simply because they choose not to be. It amazes me that our tigers have ever left the comfort of their night house to venture out into all the noise and chaos that is an LSU game day, other than for the reason that in the old enclosure, the tiger could be forced to do so. We cannot and will not force him to load. My concern is that if LSU fans continue to escalate this as an issue, it could have the undesirable but not unpredictable effect of causing this to be the last tiger we have. That would be a real shame.

Here is what i get out of that response... "You're never going to see another tiger in tiger stadium again so deal with it."

It's a shame we are losing such a cool tradition that sets us apart from other schools.

He chooses to not go in the trailer. True.

However, in the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s we don't know what they would have chosen to do because we cattle prodded them into the trailer. Fact is, most big cats would never get in that trailer unless forced.

And for those saying "Throw a steak in teh trailer!":

quote:

"Cat people know that cats do what cats are going to do," Baker told USA Today. "Life is on their terms. You can't force them and we have no way of forcing him. OK? I'll say that again. We have no way of forcing him. We wouldn't if we did. You can't entice them.

"People call me with brilliant ideas. 'Put a steak in the trailer!' Oh wow, 20 years we never thought of that. When cats think something is up, they're very wary [sic] animals and this is an apex predator. He's a fully mature tiger. He's perfectly normal. They're secretive animals. Why would he ever come out of his night house and get in the trailer? The fact that he ever does amazes me."

But he's not scared of the noise inside the stadium which was another one of your points. He just doesn't like his cage to begin with.

Are you saying that every one of Mike's caretakers from 1935-2013 were idiots? They didn't have any problem getting Mike into his travel cage to circle the stadium before games.

He said they are secretive, loner animals that choose not to go into that trailer and he is surprised he even walks out of his night cage in his habitat.

You think that doesn't stress him the frick out in that cage on the field with people screaming at him? It would stress out just about any non-domesticated animal most likely.

Again, he'll never be forced again and nothing anyone can do about it but MOVE THE frick ON.

They cattle prodded him until relatively recently.

I don't think doctors were idiots in the 1950's that put leaches on people to help with blood diseases or lobotomized people with mental illness. That was accepted practice. shite changes as we evolve as a society and learn more about this world.
