It is no slight to Stringer that he played reasonably well for 4 years.

Pete Maravich averaged over 40 ppg at a time where the 3 point shot didn't exist. He played four years but back then freshmen played in a separate league.

Shaq played three years. There are others.

Howard Carter and the Doctor, Kenny Higgs also accomplished this.

Totally different game then though.
Even w/o the 3.
.
Current opposition players are bigger on average, definitely stronger and more athletic. Not sure he'd be able to get past as many.
Also he was 6'5".
He only played 3 varsity years, which means only 3 years of quality opposition.

Maybe Andre's great stats should have a qualifier:
1st Tiger to have doubles in 4 years, playing in the modern era against bigger, stronger more athletic guys at only 5'9" (or 5'10" depending what info you believe).

Pete was definitely a brilliant player, but give 'Dre his due. An awesome accomplishment, given his drawbacks

Throwing shade at the Pistol? Seriously?

LINK

Even the best to ever play thought the guy was unreal.

I have no idea how Pete got into this conversation.

And again, Stringer's accomplishment is cool...but he isn't the first....see earlier in the thread. Several other Tigers have averaged double figures for 4 years. He IS the shortest of the group though.....

Me either, my comparison was between the two of 'email.

Read the previous posts, some illustrious names for Dre to be in the same conversation.

Britgirl-I understand your admiration for Dre, but to say that Pistol may have not put up those numbers in this day is IMO crazy. Hell the Pistol was AHEAD of his time when he played. And no more further proof is needed because he not only did it on the college level but the NBA level also.

And I would suffice it to say that some of these prima donnas today wouldn't have lasted in the NBA when Pete played. With that being said, here's to Dre lighting up Kentucky tonight.
