I know it got buried, but I believe I demonstrated pretty well that Hicks cannot be the player, on the basis that he played this year.
HE DID NOT PLAY THIS YEAR.
You can go to the lsusports.net website and look at the game participation stats and you'll see that in every game he is not listed. This means he did not play a down at all.
From the murmuring of a couple of players in my class, they made it out as if it was a player already on the team, not a recruit coming in, and subsequently implied that it was not a player on another team (benton). But for all I know, they know as much as we do.

2. let the season finish out and part ways with McCarthy as it would have been a huge distraction prior to or during the season, not to mention difficult to find a suitable replacement at the current time. Also, if they put a stop to the violations, I see no problem with him continuing to recruit for LSU.
*Also, keep in mind ... if the violations are what we are assuming (lodging for Hicks when he was not yet qualified and on scholarship), then technically there was nothing really to "put a stop to" as the violations were already over and done with. They weren't some kind of "ongoing" violations.
An analogous scenario to your hypothesis is for a major corporation to be made aware of a financial discrepancy by an outside auditing firm. Said firm declares that the CFO was embezzling from the firm account. However, the CFO had stopped his actions 3 months prior. Because it wasn't an "ongoing" violation, they decided to let the CFO maintain his present position and continue to work for the corporation.
Not freaking likely
You're forgetting that the NCAA is a fickle beast. They hand out punishment in seemingly illogical ways. If Miles and the AD were aware of the violation, sat on it for a while, and continued to let the WR coach recruit...well, let me remind you that some of the punishment for UA over the text book issue was related to 39 cent pencils.
Now, on to this quote from your distillation of the events.
quote:
McCarthy was solely responsible for Hicks’ recruitment to LSU.
Miles is totally hands off when it comes to recruiting, huh? The head coach of the state college isn't involved in any way with the pursuit of an athlete?

You guys were also repeat-repeat offenders.

well i guess this sheds some light on why miles may have been so quiet after the bama game and went through the "proper" channels

Actually it's more like a middle management exec than the CFO, the head guy may or may not have known everything that is going on. Seperate note; it's not likely to be McCarthy managing time outs for next year?

The suggestion that any influential TAF operative is orchestrating some kind of chain of events designed to undermine Coach Miles is utterly outrageous, ridiculous and scandalous.
No responsible TAF member would ever do such a thing with the intent of creating another basis for discharging Coach Miles from his duties.
That is all.

did not know we had a WIDE RECEIVER COACH
...could not tell based on performance.
have not seen any diff between 2007 and 2009
Hopefully, as it seems, IF IT TURNS OUT TO BE VALID, will affect ONE coach, ONE player (hope it does not even affect the player)
and not LSU, since the player has not played any time and LSU initiated the investigation

You can probably find out more "inside info." from the "experts" on the other SEC boards.

What punishment? Vacate a few wins that nobody cares about?

What bothers me about this whole situation is that it seems like Joe Boy and Leslie knew about it a while back and have been covering it up until now. I might be wrong but if that is the case and the NCAA was not informed early on, it will be worse than everybody expects. There seems to be way more to this situation than they are trying to portray.

Leslie is typically used by the "hated him since day 1" crowd...

if all of the details are true as advertised .. les has a hard time using the "he went rogue" card with mccarthy ... this would clearly be a case, at BEST, of miles not being in control of his program and staff ... the senior disdain for following his rules is a bit disturbing too ...
