Besides the advocate article is everyone just speculating at this point? I tried to read the thread, but most of it seems to be garbage.

Should we continue to speculate for all of the good that brings, or should we just wait until we actually know something?

This is a message board. It's for speculating.

Renting an apt. for a recruit by a coach? Negative sir.

It would only be minor if it is an isolated incident. Maybe DJ was smart and did it through a runner

I'm not saying we are going to get fricked, but this is more than just a routine secondary violation.

One crappy rumor floating around means it's automatically true no doubt.

I'm not sure why many on here are assuming this is secondary or minor. Coaches don't generally get fired for secondary violations. If DJ is losing his job because of this, my GUESS is that it is more serious than secondary violations.

Also, for those hoping Miles gets fired over this, be careful what you hope for. In order for Miles to get fired, there would probably have to be some stiff penalties. If we end up on probation, getting a top notch replacement for Miles would become much more difficult.

ETA: I know nothing and have no sources. If I am 100% correct on this, I still know nothing and have no sources. IOW, my street cred should remain slightly below zero.

if there was nothing happening LSU wouldn't be investigating shite. this just looks bad for us even if its minor. Its either miles isn't the classy guy that his lovers say he is or he has no control over the program. either way its not something LSU wants or needs and it also gives us an out to fire miles and not pay anything. that opens up alot of money to find a new coach and staff and that could make the blow softer if this is more than minor

Nothing does not = major violation.

I'm not a Miles fan at this point but running with this at this point is reaching to say the least.

I thought Hicks started against Washington.

I posted that Injury Report link yesterday thinking the same thing because it says that he started one game. However, if you scroll to the bottom, click LSU archive for a week by week starting with game one, it's clear there is a mistake. He made the trip to Washington as noted in week 1, but the notation for week 2 says he did not play. It looks like it's merely an error that got carried over week to week in the site's "reporting".

something went down bc they are investigating things. Im not running with anything. I just think miles needs to be fired over this bc it happened under his watch and he either didn't know about it or he approved it. Also he kept dj around when he knew and let him still recruit. thats just trying to harm LSUs rep

One thing this situation does do- it clears up the reason for Dexter Pratt to be a early entrant in the spring and then leave and revoke his commitment. I remember reading that he was upset that he wasn't able to be roommates with someone or there was a grade snafu and it seemed like a flaky reason for decommiting if you were all set up to come in January. Now it seems like he may have been promised an apartment and bailed when it didn't come through.

You do realize that under Saban, LSU reported several "minor violations" that they reported themselves on to the NCAA. They also then gave a report on what they were going to do to fix the problems. LSU never received any further restrictions by the NCAA. This is pretty routine.

If McCarthy did break any rules, it could be LSU's way of saying they took care of the problem, by firing him. It may also mean Hicks loses his scholarship. I guess we won't know that until the summer though.

You know what's harming your rep? You calling for specific penalties over something that's still pretty shrouded in mystery.

So, piecing everything together, here is what I have come up with...
quote:

The player involved is defensive tackle Akeim Hicks, a 4-star JUCO transfer from Sacramento, California. Hicks was recruited by DJ McCarthy, and did not play at all in 2009, his first and likely only year with the LSU program.

McCarthy, who will no longer be a part of the LSU coaching staff beyond the 2009 season, was in some way involved in helping pay for Hicks’ apartment at some point in his recruitment, possibly before Hicks was even qualified and on scholarship. McCarthy was solely responsible for Hicks’ recruitment to LSU. There are also seperate allegations that McCarthy may have also arranged similar things and been involved in violations in the recruitment of Dexter Pratt and DeAngelo Benton, two recruits that eventually went to Oklahoma State and Auburn, respectively.

Upon learning of the Hicks’ situation earlier this year, Les Miles informed athletic director Joe Alleva. Alleva recommended that Miles fire McCarthy on the spot. However, Miles and Alleva decided to wait until the end of the season to let McCarthy go. As to not put LSU at further risk, LSU did not play Hicks at all in the 2009 season.

LSU is in the midst of an ongoing investigation into the matter and is working with the SEC and NCAA in resolving the issues and self-reporting of any violations.

if true, how the hell does LSU not get in HUGE trouble? this also falls back on Les imo. again, not sure if this is true (we've all heard rumors).

This explains a lot, actually.

Damn, Les. You should have known this was going on. If you did, you're dirty. If you didn't, you're stupid. Either way, this doesn't look good for Les.

And this comes a week after we were embarrassed on national TV over and over again for the Ole Miss game....wow our national image is going to take a major hit from these couple of weeks.
