re: All of our "talent" at WR

This group of WRs has potential but they're just not THAT good yet. It's possible they could develop into something special but I don't see why people are comparing them to the Bowe/Davis/Doucet group. They aren't even close.
The difference is that Bowe/Doucet/Davis had JeMarcus Russell and Matt Flynn throwing to them. Our currect receivers have JJ. If you replaced our current receivers with Bowe/Davis/Doucet, the result would not be significantly different. And before people start whinning about "drops," let's recall that no one was more villified by the moronic LSU fanbase for drops that DBowe.
Put another way, WR's can only "produce" by catching balls and making receptions. The can only do that if (a) the offense actually calls pass plays; and (b) the QB delivers the ball accurately and on time. Neither of those things is occurring. The WR's can't change that.

Dmitch,
You hit the nail on the head karate kid 2 style! These are the types of observations made by fanbases who know what they are talking about. For all the idiots we have, we also have a lot of fans that understand the game.
I see great improvements across the board with no improvement by JJ and still the inability to properly utilize our talent.
This last reason is the major reason why I cannot fully defer that Miles has more football knowledge than myself or the astute LSU fan.

we still need a white WR that TV announcers can make pointless comparisons to wes welker for a whole quarter after he makes one reception

receivers and qbs go hand and hand. a great receiver can help any qb out. some claim that this receiver group is not as good as others.......this group as receivers is the least talented group of this decade. there is not one leader out there. randle is the only thing close. TT is far from impressive and consistent. Behind those two we have shep (not a receiver) and an always hurt chris tolliver and james wright and kadron boone. You can say what you want about potential and star ratings, but the fact is that this group is not productive enough. qb is certainly part of the equation, but receivers make a passing game as well. there was a play last week where jj threw a ball on a deep post. toliver could have got his body in position to go up and make a big play. instead he drifted back to let the ball fall down to him and the corner cut in front and almost intercepted the pass. a one on one situation where you are just putting a ball up for your receiver to make a play on and not only did we not make a play, we almost gave up a turnover. it has to get better all across the board in regards to our passing offense.

Rank these in order, from what you think is the center of our passing game problem:
I think if u read my post (especially on the 2nd pg) you can deduct how I feel. So like I said please read it. I don't want to argue in circles with u so it's playcalling/personnel issues that we are mainly struggling with. JJ next. Receivers next. I don't know how this helps you but I sure hope it does. I never even said the wr's were a problem at all. But I do feel that they are better than they have been playing and we need them to step up.

Im not going to make up some phantom problem with
our WR's just so I can generate talk.
Ya you're right let's just keep talking about how bad the qb is that's better. It's not a 'phantom problem'. It's just an observation that they haven't been elite with the limited chances they have.
I love our receivers and want them to be as good as I think they can be but I just haven't seen it yet. If a football player is indeed elite he makes the plays when he can to help his offense when the qb play is not there. And yes there may only be a few bad plays that the wr's have made but I think they know they need to step up and make those catches so the heat isn't all on the qb. Nobody feels worse than TT for letting that ball go in the air for an int last week. And shep knows he needs to make that tough catch in the endzone against state. The season isn't over and I think that we will see improvements from the whole group as the season progresses. I'm really excited about tomorrow as I'm sure everyone else is.
quote:
On another note, it has taken most of LSU's good WRs at least 2 years to become elite. Most of them, 3 years.
Most of those guys have had the luxury of starting further down the depth chart and not have to step up until jrs or seniors. These guys are young and I recognize that.
And RR played qb in HS bc it was best for his team and he's a great kid so he did, but he's been playing wr full time for more than a yr and has worlds of talent so I don't think you can argue he's still adjusting from that. Shep is obviously still developing see my posts on 1st pg.

Throwing an 8 yard out route to the sideline isnt showcasing. Throwing a WR screen isnt showcasing. If the ball cannot get down the field, then even NFL WR's wouldnt look good.
Man those plays are the NFL routes. The screen is literally the definition of showcasing talent at a skill position. What exactly do you want to see as far as pass play selection throw down the field every play?
I know we all are getting frustrated with the lack of production on offense and (once the play is in) it certainly starts with JJ but don't discount what others think just bc you can't get over how bad he is. I can see where you're coming from and believe me I was at my boiling point with JJ last Saturday, but let's not just blame all our problems on him because it just isn't productive and it creates such a division in the fan base that the kids can def feel on the field.

JMO but i think they are using the wrong WR's on the wrong plays. the screen they threw to Rueben should have been to shep. the post pattern to shep should have been to Rueben. The first pass that Rueben caught is one that all of them can be good at. even on blocking, why send blue on a flare pass behind shep when the other 2 are your best blockers. just simple things like that. think about the first game, the post worked to Rueben for a TD and the slant worked to shep for a TD. why havent we seen it done this way since? but what do i know?

JJ takes a lot of heat and some deserved
although i agree if it hits you in the hands you should catch it....but..........
JJ throws a heavy ball...what i mean by that is it has alot of energy behind it...(coming from his windup and pure velocity) plus with his high release the nose of his ball is always pointing down....makes it tougher then it should be to catch balls...garuntee those WR' like catching lees balls more then JJ's...better angle and not as heavy...

RR is the real deal.
No doubt about it. He reminds me of Michael Clayton. Always picks up YAC and is very difficult to tackle

its pointless when you don't have to respect the deep ball and all the defenders are playing near hte line of scrimmage.
or when the QB cannot even throw that short pass directly into the WR's chest and allow him to get upfield. Iv'e seen him miss on that throw too many times...high, behind the WR, into the ground, etc.

well, they are practically useless because Jefferson is bad, and the play calling is even worse. So get used to it unless they change.
