if miller wants to be an NFL QB, there's no better place for him than LSU right now for his senior year.

I mean, jennings will start over him but at least he could be taught by cam for a year

SMH. I cover the SEC for a living man -- I've watched every LSU game more than once to write my articles (which are all film studies). Go back in my archive, I have plenty of LSU stuff..

thauthor also said that cam runs pro style offense with spread aspects and while that's been true of LSU to some extent in diff yrs under miles it's not the offense this yr. he wrote about us operating out of the shotgun. seriously?

So you've never operated out of the shotgun before this season? And it said "heavy shotgun ball-handling" meaning play-actions are prevalent even in the gun. It didn't say "LSU operates all the time of the shotgun." lol

And I thoroughly believe Cameron is going to continue to evolve his scheme as he's done the past 5 seasons...He'll never NOT be a pro-style subscriber, but he will continue to provide defenses with alternate looks. That's what makes him great as an OC.

Wonder who would start: Jefferson or Jennings?

May be a really good fit for the O, but I'm afraid Mr. Harris may have something to say like
"Here's my transfer request, Les."

He looked great in the spring game and against a vanilla MSU defense (UNM, too) but it's not like he came in and shook up the world. This is LSU we're talking about, Les and the boys will find another QB. You guys reload in personnel...Who wouldn't want to play with Dupre, Diarse and Quinn, Fournette etc. Loaded I tell you...

I'm with you. I started one of these threads a couple of weeks ago. If they bring in Braxton and Harris looks better than him after spring practice and training camp then they'll play Harris. It's called competition and as of yet Harris hasn't beaten out Jennings yet. So while we all love the potential of Harris, if he doesn't put it together he'll never be the starter. Braxton could get us in the playoff next year and we start over in 2016 with a true freshman.

That's some levelheaded analysis, Sprung. Imagine if they redshirted Harris and he still have three years after Braxton? You never know how it would play out. I just hope I see some better QB play coming from you guys next season...Even if it's my guy Jennings.

B Miller should be able to come in and run the same offense LSU ran this year, but it's not going to be anything close to OSU. And it should be marginally better.

Why? Does he hand the ball off into 8 or 9 man stacked boxes better than anyone else?

QB was not our only problem this season, although it may have been the biggest. Play calls, young recieving corp etc.

You don't learn how to pass by not passing nor can you pass if the reciever runs the wrong route or has a case of the dropsies.

I think BH will be better next season and we will win with him as QB.

sorry i haven't read this thread i wasn't aware the author was here or i would;ve used your name/had the decency to address you.

it sounded you're basing miller fit into the offense based on the elements we used in the A&M game. before that LSU ran a pretty traditonal pro style/I form attack where the running is done primarily by RB's.

So you've never operated out of the shotgun before this season?

are there snaps where our QB is in the shotgun? sure. i wouldn't label what we do as "operate out of the shotgun" which are what teams that operate spread offenses do frequently.

much was made of harris having to adjust to the LSU offense bc in hs he "operated out of the shotgun" which to me meant the majority of his snaps were not under center.

nevermind, i just found the article. i apologize for the mis-interpretation.

quote:

At LSU, a lot of the concepts Miller learned at Ohio State would be in play: read-option runs, heavy Shotgun ball-handling, designed QB power and plenty of downfield passing

while miller's football IQ is probably greater just on an exp level than harris right now, if harris has had so many problems adjusting, i would think miller would at least experince some hiccups.

dunno. after watching QB play this season i can't imagine him being worse.

Anyone who actually thinks Harris will start next season is naive. Everyone on this board knows the stubbornness of Miles, and it is obvious that Harris does not have the maturity to be a starting SEC QB at this time. Obviously Harris is more talented than Jennings, but the fact that Harris could not beat Jennings out towards the end of the year is telling that something else was going on.

I don't see the problem with bringing a guy like Miller, or any other QB, to play for one year and allow Harris another year to mature. At the end of the day, Harris and Miller may be the same talent wise, but Miller brings the maturity and experience the others can't offer. Plus, Miller could be helpful in showing Harris what it takes to be a starting QB.

This x1000

Our lack of depth at QB for a program like LSU is embarrassing.

There really isn't much else to say

I'm sure any QB that is being recruited now knows that the fan base wants a true sophomore to start (and there's another guy who could potentially start for another two years). When he becomes a junior or senior the top-notch signal-callers will right back in tow.

In my vernacular, operated out of the Shotgun means you spent some plays in it. Definitely not an indication that it was something that predominantly done -- if so, I apologize. I have a clear understanding of LSU's offense as it's Cam Cameron's offense -- someone I studied for years.

But you can bet your bottom dollar that he will incorporate more stuff from the Gun next season...The funny thing is, Flacco was aligned in Gun a ton under Cam.

But the passing concepts/route combinations are pretty similar...On a side note: I touted Jennings as the best deep-ball thrower in the conference and I still stand by that. My wish is for him to improve in the short-to-intermediate game and procure the position. I saw the dude play ball here in Atlanta and I'm a fan. I just think that LSU shouldn't waste an opportunity if it presents itself.

Unless Miller gets a medical redshirt for this year (which he plausibly could do since he's essentially missed the whole season), he won't have enough eligibility to transfer here b/c of an SEC rule. I think, anyway. Source is Moscona for the rule so tifwiw
