re: After viewing the spring game, how much blame did Gary Crowton deserve?

Are you really that dumb? You want the Tigers to show their new playbook in a spring game for the whole world to see? It is only a glorified practice. You can see the athleticism, the speed, the precision. You expect after 2 months to see a vast improvement in QB play?

No. People expect after 3 years to see vast improvement in QB play.
But before he was practicing just to practice. Now that has changed.

It's a good play. Especially to a talent like Ware. Gets him the ball early and lets him use his vision and lateral moves.
I personally hate the play. I'd rather just do the traditional thing and hand it off. I have literally never seen another team at any level ever use that little pitch dive. It's like they're scared JJ will fumble by trying to hand it off

That's because it's literally no fricking different than a handoff. That's Les' baby though.

So with all that in depth analysis of how Mies pulls the wool over the fan base eyes, why did you come to The Rant asking this question when you already had so much inside info.

I'll try to dumb this down for you a bit...
Miles cares about 1 thing and that's winning games. He doesn't care about showing fans what they want to see or hiding shite from fans so they dont go apeshit (because some tards are going do it anyway). Bottomline....winning makes the fans happy.
Correction...winning makes most fans happy.

it gets the ball in the back's hands a second quicker, giving him a little more time to use vision to find gaps.

All the conspiracies about offense and love of JJ is fine, but I would like to get back to something he said in the OP.
While I may not doubt the fact that you know some of the football players, I HAVE NEVER heard this AT ANY TIME.
I know for a fact that there are several people on this board who know very well, or are related to some players, and this statement has never been uttered. I would like you to go more in depth with this, if you can.

The vanilla playbook excuse was used last spring game, and continued throughout the entire fricking season.
While I agree that is the usual excuse, our punter, Wing, was, for a fact, asked to punt with his right foot during the spring game so as to hid any advantage LSU may have in the punting game.
Fact of the matter is LSU does not open the season against McNeese at home this year. We will be on the road against the National Champion runner-up. Now, more than ever, we need to keep every advantage we may have to ourselves.

You're right...i am loyal to LSU to a fault. As a HC...what else would you care about?

I admire your passion for LSU and Miles as the coach. I agree that he is only concerned with winning games and he is not going to intentionally harm the teams chances of that because he has some sort of agenda with Jefferson.
That being said, I think it is quite possible that this will go down as a mistake on his part for playing JJ so much. While he may think it is the right call 100%, he is not infallible. There have been far greater coaches than Miles that have made similar mistakes, so it is not a knock on him, but I do believe it will be proven that he was wrong with his QB choice this year.

no. but if jj went 10 of 11 with 200 and 3 tds, krags would be a genious and gary would be getting ripped apart, even more than already.
leave the man alone, he's not here anymore.

While I disgree with most of your post, this is true, I've heard it from former Olineman

All of it..Spring Game offers the most vanilla look at our scheme....Crowton was garbage for two years...the offense was virtually last in alot of categories....Who Ya Gona Fire!....Gary Crowton!

quote:I think this is a good question. But it brought to mind the heart of the discontent in some quarters, at least in mine. I have bought the hype that we have nothing but talented receivers, RBs, O & D linesmen, a strong defense, really good special teams - all championship caliber type players because CLM and his staff have recruited at a very high level. And yes, losing more than 2 games in a year under CLM has been an exception, not the rule for much of his tenure. And yet... with all that talent, we don't have QB play to match, we have spent years and tons of words blaming Perrileaux's demise for a lot of it.
At what point in Les' career has he lost less than 2 games?
But fact is, that was years ago and we have this Senior pair of QBs who don't show much in the way of having been coached well enough or learned enough to play at the SEC level they should be playing at. Now these guys are not physical wrecks or deficient in general ability. And I am not asking them to be All-SEC or All-American Heisman candidates. But given their level of ability, by now I would have expected to see something consistent in their play, improvement, positive growth on their parts - more than an incremental show, a random series, more than an occasional game among games.
And with that expectation, which is not unreasonable, I can't help but dream about all this talent and a reasonably decent QB playing in that role, what LSU and CLM could have accomplished in all these previous 2 or 3 loss seasons we've played - and will be entering as a pre-season #1. With all this talent, we maybe could have gone unbeaten and set a kind of LSU dynasty in motion.
But heck, just unbeaten would be cool. Saban did it at Alabama, it happened not so long ago at Auburn, it happened at Florida under Urban. I can't help asking "why not at LSU?"
And then along comes another Spring Game and we hear a pile of hype that tells us JJ is new, improved and ready to hit a new level of play. But we see what we saw, more of the same. Will that be the story of yet another 2 or 3 loss LSU season, with all this talent? Tune in for the Oregon game friends and we'll see.

Les is not on the hot seat. Period.
We can have the worse passing game in the NCAA for the next 4 years running and lose 3 to 4 games a year and he is still our head coach.
Regardless of how shitty the offense may be, Les is never going to be on the hot seat unless we have consecutive 6 - 6 or losing seasons.
