I tend to agree with Raparooot. To use the word hero is a bit out of line. That word should be reserved for people like the guys that stormed Omaha Beach on D-Day and the firefighters and police officers rushing up the stairs on 9-11. You guys that are saying Raparooot is being oversensative just don't see where he is coming from. Good post Raparooot!!!!!

I also have a flag in my front yard that flies every single day.

Why does the word have to be mutually exclusive to those things in which you deem them to be seving America? Using the word "hero" in a context of baseball is just as accurate as using it in a context that you find arbitrarily accurate.

It's a word. It's meaning can and does extend outside of service to the country. Sorry but this thread and oversensitivity is ridiculous.

Sorry , but a baseball player does not fit that definition. He may be considered a clutch hitter or a good hitter under pressure, but not anywhere near a hero. I didn't realized there were so many democrats on here...lol

I'm somewhere in the middle. I think it was a sensationalist headline and the use of "heroes" was overly melodramatic. On the other hand, I think the word can be used to describe people other than the guys who died storming the beach at Normandy.

I use this term very rarely, but Schimpf is the greatest american hero ever. IMO.

Don't all parents raise "mentally challenging" children?

Since Rosetta is a former member of the military then I believe he should be given consideration for hero status

What's the obsession with flag day? It's like arbor day no one cares. We already have veteran's day, memorial day, and the 4th of july. As for hero its just a word and can mean alot of different things to alot of different people.

you're just fricking stupid. You can be a hero in CONTEXT with sports. Quit being such a pussy, especially for a republican.
