In stark contrast to you, I do know the difference between sucking and playing well, which is more than can be said about you.

At least I'm not dumb enough to keep lobbying for JL to start over JJ when it is obvious that JL is a horrible quarterback as his record more than demonstrates.

Lee's mechanics are about as compact as they get. His release is one of the quickest I've seen and he might throw one of the prettiest deep balls in the SEC

Which is why he threw for 16 interceptions and 7 pick sixes in just 8 games. Yep, he has great mechanics and throws one of the prettiest wounded ducks.

Advocate Article on J. Lee...
Personally I will never forgive Crowton and Miles for massacreing Lee's career. The way they handled him his first year was criminal and absolutely murdered this kid's psyche. And it sucks because physically he is Peyton Manning to Jefferson's Chad Pennington.

Also, like someone said, Les and some of Lee's teammates really shoulda been punched in the face for the way they commented on his play to the media.

Regardless of how he performs from here on out and regardless of the pick-sixes he's thrown I still respect him as much as any player on our team. How he isn't sitting in the corner of the locker room at McNeese and crying himself to sleep each night is beyong me. The guy has alligator tough skin.

I just hope there really is an open competition like people are professing. Many lump me in as a Lee-lover/Jefferson-hater and it's not that at all. I just feel like Jefferson has been given the position without really doing anything to seperate himself from Lee. I don't care who starts as long as there was an honest competition and someone won.

Excellent post, except I'm not sure they had any choice but to play Lee JJ wasn't mentally ready to play in '08 or '09 either.
Hopefully the game slows down for JJ this yr and Lee can relax giving LSU two capable QBs.
If you check old posts, the computer geeks on the Rant got great joy in bashing Lee.Of course most of them would mess their pants if they had to face a pass rush.

In the spring game, Lee connected on 10-of-20 passes for 114 yards and a touchdown but was also intercepted, which went for a score.

Hey, Beaux, you had the laughing icons after this stat line. Let me ask you, what was JJ's stat line for the spring game?

Yeah, give me more of that.

It's the big knock on Lee. He's got plenty of physical tools, but the psychological dmaage is just so great. I admire the kid ofr trying to tough it out, but when he plays, his body language speaks volumes: it looks like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders. I think he would have done best for himself to transfer just to start over. But, I do admire his grit for sticking it out - he's a true Tiger and I wish him the best.

Good post.

Both Lee and Jefferson have some serious mechanical issues, but Lee also has two mental issues that are not easily correctable. One of these issues - a lack of confidence in his reads - you can lay at the feet of the coaching staff. While Lee did himself no favors, the playing calling in certain situations in 2008 was horrendous.

He seems like a decent kid. Hopefully he'll recover from all of this.

The funny thing is that I think some people on here think Dr. Phil actually cares enough about football to examine the relationships of fans and players.

Here's the LINK ]link.

I agree.

The young man showed a lot of true grit by staying at LSU.

I don't know what his future holds, but I feel better for LSU knowing he is there to step in. Past troubles or not, I would rather back up JJ with Lee than another unproven/tested QB.

A big problem his is confidence.

He made some mistakes on the field. It has been greatly compounded by the coaches failure to stand behind him and build his confidence back up and show confidence in him. Some of Les's comments to the press has done nothing over the years but put more pressure on him and undermined his confidence.

If you make a mistake a work, you hope your boss talks to you about out and everyone moves on and your boss continues to believe in you.

If he reminds you about publicly and does not show confidence in you it will be hard to ever get passed it and build on it.

I admire his toughness and grit to hang in there, in a situation where he is talented enough to play, just has not received the mental support from those around him.

are you talking about lee or jefferson ?

O it's not that the coaching staff played Lee it's how they played him. When we lined up in shotgun 5 wide to start the UGA game, my TV almost didn't live to see the pick six. We took Lee's success in the second half of the Auburn game and tried to parlay that into him being a 5th year senior.

It's also the reason we have been so careful and simplistic with Jefferson. It's hurting him almost as much as throwing Lee right into the fire hurt him.

Mechanics has nothing to do with his INTs. It's all mental and his reads.

sounds like the kid's ready to start.

i'd rather watch him throw the ball away to the sidelines instead of taking a sack, like jj does.

i'll take 50% if it's guys not getting open or pressure. about 5 times in the spring game, and about 7 or 8 times in the la tech game last year.

CHECK THE TAPES.

People make way too big a deal of that......no one would even remember or have a criticism with lining up 5 wide to start a game if the result of that play had been any different. There is nothing wrong with doing that.

It isn't the five wide set that people make a big deal about.

It's a five wide set and a crossing route call with a QB with a propensity to throw into coverage under pressure on the first play of game against a ranked opponent when you have a prolific running game.
