. . . in the it's-not-fair-if-they-get-in-the-BCSCG sentiment that's floating around.

Don't want to address the validity of Bama making it in should they and LSU win out - look around, there's plenty of that already - but I do want to clarify whether or not they'd indeed have more time to prepare if this comes to be.

What are the rules regarding practice, both during the regular season and leading up to a bowl game? Could Bama keep practicing after Auburn and before SECCG (knowing they're eliminated), or does their regular season end with the Iron Bowl? Isn't there a set numeber of practices teams can have leading up to their bowl?

Again, the caveat is both LSU and Bama win out.

im not worried about time to prepare. im pissed our reward for beating them on the road is another game against a top 10 team. we risk it all, they coast to the finish line, despite the loss.

Dude, there are going to be 5 weeks between the SECCG and the BCSNCG. That's plenty of time to get ready. This is a non-issue.

Risk of injury, risk of loss, one more game tape for Bama to review, more time for their coaches to prepare (although that usually works against Saban)....

None of it is fair.

We still win it all.

Yes there are a certain amount of practices for the bowl game.I'm not exactly certain about the week of the SECCG but I assume that they can't practice "officially".Either way I think it's a moot point. We'll still have basically a mont of practices to prepare for the game.1 extra week is not going to make a big difference. It's equal footing imo.The only caveat I'd put in there is if we sustain a major injury during the SEC title game while Bama is sitting at home. That would be bad luck for us.

The biggest factor would seem to be that Bama would have to wait almost 45 days or so between games. LSU would only have about a 37 day wait or so. That's been the gripe the last couple of years (see Ohio State excuse).

I think I'm more worried about the extra game worth of injury risk we'd be taking. Who knows what would happen against a tough Georgia team

Okay - first three replies miss the point entirely.

REGARDLESS of arguments for or against Bama getting in, and ACKNOWLEDGING that there will be ample time for both teams to prepare / heal up following the SECCG, the question is:

Would Bama IN FACT have more time (read: sanctioned practices to prepare for their BCSCG opponent) than LSU? Could Bama practice for LSU in the week before the SECCG? Are the number of practices for bowl opponents limited? If so, in what period are they limited (what defines "end of season")?

I would guess that the set number of bowl practices start after a team's final regular season game, including championship games.

I'd be more concerned about getting someone hurt in the extra game, instead of the week of preparation it takes away.

Roger - a definitive answer to this question is what I'm looking for.

Don't know the rules about practice, but I was thinking more along the lines of:

LSU has already played in a Dome once this year, and assuming LSU plays in the SECCG will have done it twice against very good opponents. I'm not talking about practicing at an indoor facility, I'm talking about full-on actual game experience. The Cotton Bowl last year couldn't have hurt, either.

This is an angle I haven't seen anyone else throw out there.

I see UGA in the Georgia Dome as damn good practice to get ready for whoever is #2 in the SuperDome.

Anybody know the recent Dome/artificial turf on concrete experience of Bama, Arky, OSU, OU, VT?

THIS!!!

We've been dealt a lousy hand with the way it's playing out..but you have to play the cards you're dealt. It is what it is....

All we have to do is Win baby Win!

Would any of ya'll give up the victory at BAMA to not be in this position?....Didn't think so!

at some point you get stale and time off becomes a hindrance rather than a help anyway.

Even Lesticle detractors have to admit: given time to prepare, Les' teams are freaking scary.

The one thing that makes me feel good about our chances in a Bama rematch is that Miles has weeks to get 'em ready. It's an LSU advantage.

I have two thoughts about an LSU/Bama rematch:

(a) Yes, Bama is advantaged with us having everything to lose in the SECCG and nothing to gain.

(b) That being said, championship teams do what they have to do, no matter what that may be. Bring on Bama.

The genesis of my question is that if the number of practices for the bowl game is limited (x number of practices, each no longer than y hours) AND if Alabama can practice between the Iron Bowl and SECCG outside of these limits knowing EXACTLY who their next opponent will be, that would be a clear advantage that they earned by nature of losing a game.

Nothing else about a rematch bothers me. Injuries happen, even in practice. By most accounts if we beat Arky and lose to UGA we're still good. Of course, beating the Hogs is vital. These games will get us ready for 9 January.

I'll agree. If we beat Arky and Georgia, we would then have to play a team that we beat at their place and who didn't even win their own division, much less conference. Bama comes out of this thing smelling like a rose.
