It's hard to give a guy the ball when you don't have it. ND had it for the last 6 mins of the game. They controlled the clock the entire 4th quarter because the D couldn't make stops.

I have no problem with Alleva not wanting to match Chavis' deal. Let him walk. But LSU is the fifth-most valuable football program in the country, according to Forbes. That $400K isn't essential to LSU, and it's certainly not worth fighting Chavis for it.

Chavis looks bad in all of this, especially how the defense was nonexistent in a game played when it was clear he was leaving. Makes him look like he didn't give a crap and he probably didn't. So take the high road and try to beat him next November. That's the best revenge.

Business is business. If the contract was extended through 2015, then he knew, or should have, that the buyout clause would apply. LSU and Alleva really have no choice.

Has everyone already forgotten what Florida had to pony up to get McIlwain away from Co. State?

1. It's not an easy win by any means. There other side has a strong argument that he worked into the. $0 buyout portion of his deal. If I represented Chavis I would advise him not to settle for anything more than a token amount and I'd be happy to fight this one.

2. Chances for a loss would be high. They have several legal hurdles to miss without incident.

I am assuming that you would not be making these comments unless you had looked at the contract. And don't forget about our civil code:

quote:

Law in the state of Louisiana is based on a more diverse set of sources than the laws of the other forty-nine United States. Regarding substantive law, although Louisiana's criminal law largely rests on English common law, and its administrative law is generally similar to those of the Federal government and other states, for legal issues between private parties, Louisiana retains civil law with some common law influences. Louisiana is unique among the 50 U.S. states in having a legal system for deciding private disputes primarily based on French and Spanish codes and ultimately Roman law, as opposed to English common law.[1] Louisiana thus follows the system of most non-Anglophone countries in the world.

Don't get me wrong, I don't care one iota about how this plays out.

Sounds like LSU thinks the new date is 12/31/2015 based on the extension.

If so I hope the do sue. This has nothing to do with Aggies. LSU has a contract with Chavis.
It makes no sense that there would be a "buyout" after a contract ends. 2014 was the last year of his contract, but it was extended through 2015 with a one year extension. His contract had a buyout of $0 in the last year of his contract, which is now 2015.

Chavis could have told Alleva and Miles that he intended to go to another school in November and it wouldn't matter as long as he was willing to complete his 2014 contract year.

Even if Alleva thought he had a case in court I have no idea why he had to say anything until after we got a new DC and NSD had passed. We clearly weren't going to file anything on New Year's Day. His little announcement makes it look personal.

Ummmm...no, it obviously does not.

That is why we have attys, judges and courts

None of which you qualify

If notification was given even verbally before Jan 1, 2015 Chavis will be in default of contract.

Chief needs to write the check and move on. He did not want to be here any longer and everyone knew.

Good luck. It's absurd to act like he owes that money. It's unethical. It's complete and total bullshite. And it will make other coaches think twice about dealing with LSU.

Wait. I'm having trouble understanding what it is you think is unethical. Breach of an agreement you signed? Or holding the breaching party responsible for the agreement he/she signed?

Right. Got it.

Keep drinking the Chevis koolaid. LSU lost because the defense could not get off the field. When LSU was finally able to take the lead, the defense went into Chavis mode and allowed ND to win the game.

But whatever ... enjoy your new DC.

So where exactly did you get the information from that the buyout didn't extend to the final year of the contract? Surely it is a set in stone source, and not just speculation like all articles about it have done.

It was too much but if it buys them a win vs LSU it's good money. His D is a bad matchup for the Sumlin offense but they needed a splash hire.

If LSU downgrades at the DC position it was a win for Aggie.

Every single article and source I have seen mentions that the buyout drops to $0 in the last year of the contract. Every one.

Maybe every single report out there is wrong, but there are ZERO sources saying his buyout runs through December of 2015.

Again, using a 1 game picture to describe someone's season or career is unconvincing.

Its not a 1 game evaluation on Chavis. You lose 5 this season & 4 are directly attributed to the defense: MSU, Auburn, Bama, and ND. You could even say Arkansas because they dominated TOP. Against MSU, Auburn & ND the defense wasn't even competitive.

we have no idea what the contract and extension say

but if it is clear he owes the money, and that is the position of our legal department. LSU better go after it. This folks are stewards of governmental funds or quasi-governmental funds. It is their responsibility to the tax payers. end of story in my book.
