Note to people that make comparisons, learn how to accurately make comparisons. Rocky had become lazy and fat by the time Mr. T showed up on the scene. The Tigers aren't fat, and as someone says, "They have a want" that hasn't been sated yet.

Yeah if we as fans get excited and look ahead, we may lose.

it's what happens when you want to be a top program

do you see bama fan's all worried when they are ranked #1? oklahoma fans?

if you cant handle the pressure then you dont deserve to be #1 to begin with

but it's not like the players are completely immune to all the chatter. They hear it too.

This is the biggest problem with all of the accolades and the #1 ranking. There is still ALOT of football left to be played.

Rocky was a fictional character.

life imitates art....and vice versa. just sayin.

frankly, if there was any fictional character I would like our team to emulate....it would be the "terminator." when rebuffed he simply stated, "Ald be bock"....and we all know what transpired from that moment on.

Can I ask an honest question. Since I will talk to zero of the current LSU football team this year why does it matter if I get confident in the fact that the team that I cheer for is number 1? I mean, am I going to negatively affect any part of any play for this team this year? I understand not being overly confident if you are a member of the LSU tiger football team, but if you are a fan, why can't you be overly confident? We are fans, we have absolutely NOTHING to do with the outcome of any game that has been played or will ever be played. Can we make it hard for other teams to hear their play calls? Yes. Other than that, what do we really provide?

ranking means "ZERO" until November!

Tell that to an Auburn Fan. (2004, anyone?)

The No. 1 Ranking is significant.

OU or OSU will go undefeated from the Big XII-2-1.

Wisconsin or Nebraska will go undefeated in the B1G.

Stanford can go undefeated in the PAC.

The fact that LSU has the No. 1 ranking - this early - means that if we keep winning, we'll play for that national title. It means so much more when there are multiple teams that look as good as LSU, Bama, UF, Wisc, etc.

The other thing LSU has going for it is we are now Oregon and WVU fans too. I'll take my chances saying that those teams will not lose many more games.

The real word of warning about the No. 1 ranking - and Les Miles knows this - is that it means you get everyones best shot. Every week is a war and the emotional toll is tougher than the physical toll.

Oklahoma or Bama might jump us after next week even if we win.

Man some of you are taking what I said wayyyy out of context. Pretty par for the course here at the Rant, but nevertheless...

The comparison to rocky was tongue in cheek.

But there is truth in it...when you've achieved the top spot in anything (even if it is for just week), There's an over-inflated sense of self worth and cockiness--which is good, but why can't I hope that they won't get the big head and keep their edge?

as long as we are top 3 in the human polls, the computers haven't been heard from yet....

I'd rather stay a little under the radar rather than walking around with a target on our backs....

Agreed, it's allmost impossible to be # 1 throughout the season.IMO, being #3 or #4 is a much better possition to be in and puts a little less pressure on the team to perform like their the Green Bay Packers. As of now, LSU is playing better than any other team out there & deserve the high rankings, unless your Tom Dienhart who does not think much of J.Lee & Les Miles. It's still great that Tiger fans can even discuss topics like this, Geaux Tigas

My only concern is that I want them to keep their edge!
A lot of the players were on the 2007 NC team, and many came soonafter. The lessons learned over the past years have to be clearly instilled in them, including how it only takes one flat game to cost you.
