re: A THEORY about the band ban move

Or maybe - just maybe - F King and Alleva are incompetent retards who couldn't effectively administrate a Wal Mart Neighborhood Market much less a major American research university and athletic department.

I think your analysis is spot on. It was always about money.
Did anybody notice the revision of the order of half time performances. TGBFTL will now go first when a visiting band is present. I suspect they will reduce the time allotted to them as a result.
I suspect you will see a reduction in size of TGBFTL within a year. Probably back down to 275 where it was when I marched back in the 80's.
That saves a lot of money.

My theory is logically sound, especially given the surrounding circumstances.
I agree completely. I immediately thought to myself "there goes the 'full band' game." Although I'm sure there will still be pep bands, that one trip with the full band does cost ~$1M.

LSU didn't ban other teams from bringing their band, just from letting the band perform on the field during halftime. So, if all schools imposed the same thing against LSU, the net affect would be, instead of LSU's band performing at halftime during 1 road game, they would perform at halftime during 0 road games.
Wrong. No school is going to send their whole band if they are not performing. Money back in the pocket.

It would also have zero impact on 2016, as the band is probably using their 1 full travel game for Wisconsin. As a neutral site game, there is no school that can ban the band from performing during halftime, and is probably encouraged.
You are as dense as seawater!!! If a pep band goes (instead of the full band), LSU athletics saves money (cost less to send a pep band) AND makes money (they sell the tickets for those extra band seats instead of eating it).
quote:
Bama, and the rest of the SEC teams can afford to pay for the tickets that the band members will be sitting in. If Bama didn't send a single band person, those seats would be occupied by a random Bama fan, as they are part of the visiting team's ticket allocation.
You still don't get it........This is, and has always been about MONEY. Joe wants to send pep bands instead of full bands because HE wants to spend that portion of their $115 million dollar budget on other things OR maybe he is pissed off that athletics is "forced" to fund the LSU Band. You decide.

Thought the same thing Billy when it first happened.

Glad to see a few of you aren't falling for the "safety" excuse. If it isn't about safety, what is it about, and why lie?
I know thinking outside of the box is an impossibility for some and an inconvenience for others, but the people running LSU aren't simple "idiots." They are in power for a reason, and they continue to tighten their grip on control of the cash flow.
Take all the surrounding circumstances into consideration. These administrators know exactly what they are doing. They aren't just going to come out and take money away from the sacred LSU football program because it would enrage the public and mobilize us. They make small moves in the shadows right under everyone's noses, and use excuses like "safety concerns" to disguise their true motives.
Wake up

Interesting theory, but I don't think Alleva, Nunez, et al are smart enough to come up with that.
Posted on 6/16/16 at 6:26 pm to BillyBobBlitzkrieg
I have no doubt that F. King is behind this. Yet another embarrassing black eye brought on by Alleva and company. The timing of this being so close to Roy King's firing pretty much screams "money grab." As a result, the only time the full band will travel will be for neutral site games and bowl games. Don't be surprised if we see a reduction in quantity of members and quality of music. Yet another LSU treasured tradition destroyed by bureaucrats.

Thus should be filed under "what the hell are you guys thinking?" Serious lack of judgement IMO

Who needs the GBFTL when we can just pump in more Garth Brooks and shitty rap music? Costs almost nothing.
The role of our band has been slowly diminishing for years. Younger fans don't even remember it anymore, so they won't miss it when they're out of school and ready to buy tickets of their own. King and Alleva might as well be honest about it and cut it out altogether instead of beating around the bush. No more band schollys, no costs associated with uniforms, instruments or travel, and a bunch more seats to sell that will be paid for but only occupied for 2-3 games per year for 2-3 quarters per.

EXACTLY.....Why do you think the Athletic Department moved the band's seats TWICE since the late 80's. They wanted to make more money (keep moving the band from expensive seats to cheaper seats). Befor you know it, the band will be in the upper deck!

If they could make an extra dime, they'd follow through with it.

We need to remove F. King Alexander and Alleva both. We need leadership that sees the value in LSU football and all the revenue it brings in. We need to find innovative and creative ways to raise money to meet our budget, instead of penalizing LSU's athletic budget, which is a cash cow, and is sacred among the alumni and all its fans.
Preach it brotha.

The day this happens is the last day I will contribute any money to LSU. Tiger Band is a treasured LSU tradition. If LSU ever eliminated the band, they'd be the laughingstock of the college football world.

This is how progressives think. Penalize the positives that produce instead of rewarding and adding incentives to the already productive and incentivising those who are less productive to be more productive. It's all about punishing the wrong group.

CLIFFS: LSU money hungry Admins gambled and bet that if we banned other bands from playing at halftime, then all other teams would ban LSU's traveling band from attending their stadiums. This would save around 1 million dollars a year in ticket costs, room and board, travel costs etc. They lied blaming it on safety concerns, and we didn't bite
Congratulations on being the first person to come up with this theory.

Does anyone actually care about visiting bands not playing at halftime?
I care that the LSU AD lied to the public when he stated that this was about "safety".
