Every win is a plus. LSU cannot afford to lose against a lower echelon SEC team.

I would guess that the "Max Johnson > Myles Brennan" contingent is growing smaller each weekend. I hope that we will see Brennan before the end of the season.

I'm not a big fan of the "we're going to have a better record because it is a down year for a lot of SEC teams" position. This seems like a backhanded compliment. I want to see the team do well and have a solid record because the players and the coaches improve as the year goes on.

The defense seemed to do what the defense needed to do. Better offense would lead to a better defense.

It will be an interesting game this weekend with Finley at the helm of Auburn.

You'll continue to see him on the sidelines. Nothing against Brennon but Max is playing great ball.

I would even argue that the SEC, at least the teams on LSU's
schedule are much improved. Arkansas and Ole Miss are now tough games unlike the last few years. Despite the lack luster running attack I think there were times where the O-line showed improvement and Johnson had plenty of time to sit back and throw the ball against Miss State. There is small improvements on both sides of the ball and all we can do is take it one game at a time and look at the positives as well and not just the negatives. LSU has an upset win against one of the big teams this year.

The defense, for the most part, executed their game plan. It was boring. It was NOT what Ed prefers to do (DL was virtually no factor in the pass rush while rushing 3). That won't be the game plan going forward (except, maybe at times against Ole Miss).

The offense made some plays but was inconsistent. The running game is non-existent, which puts a ton of pressure on the QB to execute. Johnson had some poor throws...but also some really good ones. It was also the first time many of the guys had to deal with a true hostile crowd (UCLA's crowd was only about 40k mostly apathetic fans)

Is this a great team? No. But they look like they are starting to develop some confidence. Something they never really had at any point last season. Saturday night SHOULD be the first time many of these guys have played with a true homefield advantage. If they can use the juice of the crowd to get a win it might continue to raise their level of play as the season goes on.

...only because the backup QB is always massively overrated by fans.

Nothing has changed really with respect to that discussion. I’m not convinced at all that Brennan could function at a high level under the amount of pressure he’d get.

What will the difference be? He couldn't convert 3rd downs last year when needed. He is pretty much a statue in the backfield, and with the way our line blocks I don't see how that's helpful. Now if he can convert 3rd downs, and get rid of the ball quicker than last year that will make a difference, but I'd wait to see if that happens. Don't get me wrong. I respect the kid for staying, and I hope he is successful.

Why would you guess that? I don't know if one is better than the other, but if one had that opinion going into the season, Max completing 64% of his passes with 15 TDs to 3 INTs while owning the nation's longest streak of 3+ TD games would not change anyone's thought process. And that's with the 122nd rushing attack in college football.

For this team to get better, the protective dome covering Max must be removed. He needs some intentional scambling plays and QB keeper plays. That could improve our chances against Arkansas and Ole Miss. He should practice his slides this week.
