This question is being asked because I know not many of you have looked up his record and the makeup of his teams.
He is given accoladed because of this years team but if you will look, this team has no freshmen, two sophomores and the rest juniors and seniors. I think some of you ranters could coach this team to 20 conference victories.
Look at 2017, he had a team analogous to LSU's team this year, freshmen and sophomores. He coached them to 7 conference victories. His 2018 team, that made the regionals, had 14 conference victories and the added advantage of having the freshmen and sophomores with one more year of conference experience as compared to LSU.
Experience makes a lot of difference. Our 2017 team, for instance, had Deichman, Robertson and Papierski who, if they hit like they did as freshmen, LSU would probably not made it out of regionals.
After seeing what other teams have done as the players gain experience, this LSU team should explode in the next two years and if I were a coach, I would love to be part of it.

Vitello has been building TN for a couple of years. Very impressed with his team and their never say die attitude. Guy is young and hungry and would crawl to BR. I say go get him.

Just look at the talent difference between LSU and TN. We have 10 top 100 players and TN has 2. He is light years ahead of the current staff at player development.

I don’t believe Vitello plays Cranford. That’s why I want him. He will instantly bring energy back to the program. Shouldn’t really need to explain why Vitello is a great hire. I mean this year proves that. He can be the Will Wade of baseball.

Tell me what each player was ranked coming out of high school. You think ranters would be able to develop and improve a program in 4 years like vitello has? Cmon dude.

So he gets to Knoxville with one of the worst teams in the SEC who hadn’t been to the NCAAT in nearly 15 years, turns them into a national seed in year 3 and your concern is “well, they sucked his first year”? Yeah no shite. He had to build that team from nothing. Is it weird to you the freshman he recruited in years 1 and 2 have improved or something?

I think the LSU fan base is a little exhausted of complacency and resting on laurels. I personally want someone hungry, driven, something to prove, big recruiter. If not Vitello than similar coach.

I feel like I should tell you his first year at Tennessee was 2018.

As to why him, the top reason is he’s a proven elite recruiter and has done it at places without a lot of elite in state talent, so very similar to Louisiana.

He can recruit and develop. And, when I say develop, I mean both physically and mentally. He gets good guys in, makes them better at their craft, and builds them into warriors. It's not just Tennessee, but Mizzou, TCU, and Arky. Just go read through his track record.

I do agree that only a monkey could screw up next year as far as the lineup goes. But, I've seen some good lineups screwed up here and we prob need some pitching help for next year - and a revitalized attitude.

His players would run through a brick wall for him. They believe in him and he gets everything out of them. He’s one of the best talent evaluators out there. So he gets kids that may be passed over by others.

I don’t think LSU should be hiring a guy who’s only good season was the 2021 season. This season was not a normal season.

They were in a regional final his second year and were like 20-1 when the season was cancelled last year. This season didn’t come out of nowhere

I can promise you he’d better than Mainieri.

Have you looked up who the guys he has gotten to campus as a recruiter even before Tennessee? Have you looked at the guys he developed even before Tennessee? Did you see what Tennessee did in 2019 coming off of a .500 season? How about in 2020 before the season was cancelled?

Look, I'm not a Vitello nut hanger but he's as prime of a candidate as anybody.

He brings the kind of attitude and intensity we need. Go get him and don't wait. Others won't wait, so strike now. This can be done behind the scenes, and hopefully we can give PM a good sendoff with our play in the tourney.

Which would make 2018 his first season.
