I'm booking a trip to Baton Rouge for the Alabama @ LSU game with 8 guys for our annual road trip. I'm looking for some ideas to lock down our travel. Any help would be appreciated.

We need any local help we can get to pull this off. Thanks in advance for any help and I'll check back for tailgate/game day questions closer to the game.

1) Lodging is limited from what you can find and what is available on internet. Any leads on good home rentals that you can share? We'd rather do a house, but if we have to go with hotel, what is best in terms of location (currently have reservation at Comfort Inn at 3045 Valley Creek Road)?

2) Ticket prices are high and we figured we'd just jump on them right now on StubHub. We'd rather sit in lower bowl, but ticket prices are going to prevent that, so we are looking upper deck on the 30 - 40. Are we better off on the LSU sideline (614/615) or the visitor sideline (632/633)? Also, any recommendation on row - many tickets listed are in the 20's and we don't want to be too high.

===========================================

We have no skin in the game - just looking for great football and great college town with tradition. We made the LSU @ Alabama last year and we thought seeing the other side would be fun this year. This is a big game and will be both difficult and expensive to get tickets and lodging.

Talking to a bunch of your fans last year they all said this was the year that the Tigers were supposed to be good. I'm looking forward to both teams entering the game undefeated again. Tiger Stadium in on the bucket list so we figured this is a great opportunity.

Tickets will be very high for that game you will surely have to pay a premium price. I don't have any good info as far as lodging goes, but I can tell you to just enjoy the tailgating scene it is one of the best in college football. Good Luck

Try Lod Cook. It's on campus and may have space available.

I would check out VRBO for housing rentals. That area where the hotel is located should be fine for a crap hole if it's near I-10 in BR. Definitely not a great area to go out and experience the town but fine. Other options near capmus and better are Lod Cook Alumni Center (almost certainly booked) or Staybridge Suites. These two are ideal and probably unlikely.

Ticket prices are destined to be high and can't speak specifically about the locations as have only sat in those seats once almost 10 years ago.

It will definitely be a great weekend and our fans are very inviting. Geaux Tigers and let's get Bama for last years unspeakable end

Here ya go TempFan:

B.R. area Bed&Breakfasts

LINK

visitbatonrouge.com also lists all the hotels of course....

As far as which sideline, I'd DEFINITELY try to get the West side (LSU side), especially if you are in the upper deck, because you won't get the cold air coming from the Mississippi River on the West side :)

Thanks for input. Tailgating will be high on our list. Once we get closer to the game I'll reach back out here to get some ideas on what we might be able to do.

LSU may be but I doubt Alabama is.

Thanks for feedback. Both of the hotels you mentioned are booked solid, as are many of the top tier hotels.

We are opening up the parameters on VRBO as we prefer the house option (although not mandatory). We have our eye on one place, but it is 16-miles from stadium. That is pushing it, but might be what we need to jump at. We are looking into whether we can secure a limo/shuttle/ride from bar district on Fri and game on Sat back to the house.

Question for you: 1) Is transportation an issue? 2) Where is the bar district around LSU?

As a side note: we had a blast up in Tuscaloosa, but when the bars closed we were too drunk to drive. Last minute ride was needed and we could not get a taxi/limo/shuttle back to our rental house. We are trying to be more proactive this time so we aren't stranded!

Thanks - good info.

Shared the ticket info with the group and this is what I got back, "Good feedback on cold air coming off Mississippi river, that’s what I call getting the local low down- crawdaddy style."

Best bar district for visitors to the city is 3rd St downtown baton rouge. Several bars, live music, variety of resturants near each other within walking distance. Downtown hotels also work because there is a downtown shuttle to games and a levee walking path- 3 miles to lsu.

College bars are all near lsu. 18 years can get in bars here so many bars near lsu have young crowds.

Outside of some gameday shuttles public transit is very poor. You would need to book a limo now.

Good point. 35 - 50. We want the younger crow, but don't want that to be it and end up as the old guys at the party.

We can drink with the best of them. Ultimately we want to let loose and enjoy some of the atmosphere leading up to the game. Would be nice to jump between a few bars and start of kicking back at a place you can hear each other and bs with some local fans, then head to a bar with a band playing, then hit a dance club. That seems like the normal routine on these trips.

I'm not going to knock you, but most people can't hang drinking with people from South Louisiana. My recommendation is to pace yourself; if we are lucky enough to have a night game the parting will start on Friday and last till well after the game. You might not have much left in the tank for a night out after that...

New Renaissance Hotel opens on Bluebonnet

Try this hotel, it just opened up. It is about 7-10 miles from campus, right next to Mall of Louisiana and they might offer shuttle service.

If you ware looking for cab rides home, I suggest call a few days earlier and tip the cab guy a nice tip get his cell phone for the return trip.

I think it has already been decided that it will be a night game, based on last years game being moved to night time. It sure be a big party. Enjoy.

I have tickets around the 40 in both uppers row 15 on the east and row U on the west...row 15 is decent and row 20 is a little high, but manageable....good thing is, you can see every play of the night from there, which is important because we don't really have a much of a jumbotron for replays...It shouldn't be cold in early November, but I would recommend the west side since the sun will be to your back....

as far as hotels go, from those that are available now, I would chose the Belle of Baton Rouge, the Drury Inn, the Holiday Inn (college drive), the rennisance inn...in that order....

unfortunately, there is no real bar district associated with campus, but there are some pretty cool areas of baton rouge (and some pretty scary ones too)...and remember, new orleans is only about 45 minutes away....

public transit is not an option...for that many folks, I would just rent a mini van or something like that...you'll be glad you did....

ETA: whatever you do, take it easy drinking on Friday night...many, many gameday experiences have been ruined by overdoing it...

I checked where the hotel you reserved is. It's in an area with a lot of hotels and a lot of higher end restaurants and some bars. Try The Station bar baton rouge to check out a bar near your hotel online. You can walk to a lot of places from your hotel, but you will have to cross traffic. It is probably the best area in BR for out of towners on a game weekend outside of downtown.

Truth. Tolerance - it's a beautiful thing.
