Ok? Kelly was given a depleted squad with very little scholarship players. Miles was given an Elite team.

At the end of the day Kelly has to rebuild. Miles had to maintain.

The other reason was also bc Bama was willing to pay massive sums of money under the table before NIL was NIL. Now that NIL is allowed, a lot of these schools that didn’t want to skirt the line are in the game causing a little more parity in recruiting.

Bama STILL had the number 1 recruiting class last year. Talent is there just not producing.

LSU needs much better DBs and DL….otherwise that great offense is wasted.

I have a simple theory why 5* OL/DL are way more important than 5* skill positions. Theory is that just aren’t that many enormous people walking the earth so there is a much bigger drop off from a 5* to a 3* OL/DL recruit than from a 5* to 3* RB/CB/WR

Meh…

Gimme 5* CB’s for SEC play. Bama won with some pretty average QBs

OL rotation.

That’s false. A great Oline is important, but it wasn’t even half the reason, much less 75%. Their defensive front seven was at least as important in an era in which defense won football games. Remember, in 2011 Alabama had to play the best team in the nation twice. The scores were 9-6 and 21-0. Bama gave up 9 points in the two games. THAT’s what won that championship, not an offensive line that got their shite pushed in for 8+ quarters. In fact, Bama’s 2008 to 2017 heyday was dominated by defense.

We need 5 Stars at three positions to win a championship-

OL
DL
QB* QB doesn't have to be a 5 star if he's got "it"

None of them have to be five stars. There were very few five stars on the 2019 LSU team that did okay. You do need great players, though.

In today’s game you need solid players everywhere and ideally great players at these positions:

QB
LT
WR1
Edge Rusher (DE)
CB

Get elite talent at those positions, with solid three star type talent everywhere else, and you are competing for the playoffs (not dominating). Add about five more at OL, DL, LB, CB and WR and you are the best team in the country.

That’s what LSU had in 2019 - dominant players at:
QB (1)
OL (2) Cush and Lewis
WR (2)
DL (1) Chiasson
LB (1) Queen
CB (2)
S (1)

I don’t agree. Recruiting services are still in the habit of ranking Bama recruits high because bama wanted them. Also, Saban is starting to miss spectacularly on guys he used to process. Ishmail Sopsher, for example. Half of this board knew that guy was going to be a bust. Why didn’t Saban?
