Just stop. That's a nice little idea you have there, but it's not the way it works in the real world. Sportsbooks lose money sometimes. This can go on for weeks at a time, with Vegas being down. This is published facts/data, not something I'm just saying. In the long run books make money, but your assumption that all games are bet equally is way off.

But not THIS way off. If 75% of the money was being bet on LSU, then Vegas would NOT be giving LSU 4.5 points. End of story.

I was not commenting on LSU-Bama game, only addressing his post on how Vegas sportbooks operate.

The money has shifted a bit. 75% was on lsu as of this morning, now more money coming in on Bama. Still though, 61% of money overall on lsu

I saw this number on gameday, but wasn't this just from one company? In other words, the number was pulled from the bets being placed with whatever company they got it from right? Or does, where ever the number was taken from, represent all the bets being placed in Vegas?

Number of bets does NOT equal AMOUNT of $$$ bet. Big difference. This is not that hard to understand people.

. The spread adjusts to even out the betting and risk to the sports book. This is math way beyond experts just picking some random number. The sportsbook doesnt care who wins or loses just that people place the bets. The spread ensures the bets are even. Or in theory at least. If they could not even out the bets on a game with a spread they would not offer the game. A giant corporation wouldn't give you the chance to beat the house.
This is 100% false. Its intuitive, but not how it works.

The combination of the ‘over’ and the Packers’ victory was lethal. It’s the worst Super Bowl I’ve seen since being here in 1993

The only thing unusual about this is its the underdog, but often 1 side gets most of the action.

continue being a dumbass then. vegas takes a bath every once in a while.
hell they took a bath the first 7 weeks of the CFB season.

You guys know nothing about how this works. The reason 75 percent of the public is on LSU is because the smart money is on Alabama.
75 percent of the weekend betters are putting a few bucks on LSU cause they have a hunch or just want them to win. Of the 25 percent on Bama, many are professional cappers placing huge bets.
So there is probably a similar amount of money on both sides. If there wasn't the line would move to even it out. Vegas will probably make tons of money regardless of who wins. What they don't want is a push(Stanford last week).

im not sure who you were talking to, but a couple of posters were 100% correct in this thread.

No one ever seems to be able to distinguish between number of bets and amount of money being bet. There could be 10 $100 bets on LSU and 3 $2,000 bets on Bama. It's about how much money is on each side, not number of bets.

100% right. all bets are not equal.

this is true.
i havent seen anything that gave definitive numbers re: amount of money bet and number of bets placed.
basically the whole thread is statements based on assumptions

The people jumping to conclusions that Vegas will have a hand in the outcome.

ahh. carry on then.
note to everyone: vegas is run by mormons and multi-national corporations, not the mob.
